Last week we hosted my son’s 15th birthday in the D&D gaming room at The Comic Dimension. Before I started looking for a place in Greensboro to host this party, I didn’t know anything about TCD. Short story is that thanks to the enthusiasm and generosity of the TCD team, eight teens had an absolute blast for 4 hours, sneaking into a dungeon and battling magmen before an epic finale battling dragons on a beautiful miniature ship replica that TCD staff brought out in a big reveal.
Justin and Chris were amazing. They were incredibly responsive and thoughtful in arranging for the party and making sure everything was prepared and the kids had a blast. I was able to buy party favors from their cool dice set selection, and they even brought out some other D&D merch samples like giant d20s and beholder keychains for the kids as well.
The room rental included a new set of surprise dice and a mini of my son’s favorite D&D character. They were perfect and he was over the moon when Justin brought out his mini.
I really can’t say enough great things about our experience. TCD’s on-staff DM, Lucas, even talked through the one-shot adventure idea with me, and offered his support as needed. Chris and team really thought of everything, and their commitment to fostering a love of D&D in a new generation was abundantly evident. I’m just hoping some of my son’s friends decide to host their birthday at TCD so we all have a chance to do it again.
P.S. I used to play D&D regularly before kids, and after this great birthday party experience I decided to try jumping into one of the hosted games at TCD this week. I had a really great time as well, and as a busy dad, it’s amazing to have an opportunity to just drop into a pre-scheduled game with a professional DM in a dedicated gaming...
Read moreThis is one of those uncommon places where you step in and you think, 'Wow!' and that wow is one of 'Those guys are laughing and joking like they've been friends for years.'. Though it's only been days or weeks. The environment consists of some of the best, down to earth and open-armed men and women I have encountered in many nerd-loved places.
The Comic Dimension is one of those rare comic shops that don't show you attention to only try to shove as much merchandise down your throat to make a sale. The owners are some of those people you will remember because they make it a point to remember you and your hobby(or passion for those of us who enjoy what we play and engage in). It's very laid-back and if you have a question, Chris aka Prime will surely assist you or find someone who does.
I've seen all kinds of players here, from Magic to Heroclix, from Heroclix to Dungeons and Dragonns; among many other groups who come, play, and watch. The comic selection is amazing, as well as the collection itself and again, the shop is where you many flock to because well...it's just that good.
I have traded in things there and the cost has been fair, from Heroclix to my Magic cards(when I used to play). And when there's been a card or click he wasn't interested in, trust me he was polite in telling me no thank you.
So again if you're interested in trading things, he is fair. Those who have said he's not well...everyone feels some kind of way when told 'no thank you, your trade isn't what I'm looking for at the time' or 'This is how much the shop itself can offer you according to the tools I use to value them.'. Just get over...
Read moreI came in a tired, stressed, and OG nerdy geek. I didn't know if I wanted to delve into my past with all the beautiful things that I set aside from my youth that built up my imagination and gave me a foundation of moral beliefs/sound values. Life is rough as an adult. I was dressed as Wonder Woman, my favorite character, for Comic Day. But I was immediately welcomed and encouraged in a gentle way by the people at this shop. I felt like I could be myself there with them...and that was "okay". Soon my days were filled with anticipation in going to play DnD with people I made into new friends and they didn't just share time playing with me - they shared LIFE. I wasn't so alone. I then made time for things that made me happy again, and tried new gaming things like Magick the Gathering and collecting LOTR cards. As a newbie to new hobbies, the people at the shop were so helpful and shared their geeky love with me. I didn't feel bad not knowing as much as they did; they taught me what they knew. Anyone can go to a comic shop and find friendly people working and congregating there, but I honestly felt welcome and as if they were a sort of family, not just a business they take seriously. I sincerely wish for them to have prosperity, to remain a strong and fun presence in their community, and can't wait to see their shops spread through NC like wildfire one day. Wink, wink! Thank you to all you beautiful people down there committed to the shop and supportive of your customers...
