My name is Tyrell, and I was a visitor of this museum today around 1:45 and from the time I entered the museum a woman named Marnie, stout black woman, had the worst bedside manner. She was demeaning and very uncouth…unwelcoming…and generally displeasing. I along with a few friends were very new to this museum and I personally have never been to one. This treatment was absolutely ridiculous. I felt that she was setting a judgmental tone towards me and my associates the entire time all while rolling her eyes. After viewing some of the beautiful artwork. One of my associates decided to “sneeze” into his shirt and she immediately charged towards us and asked us to leave. No warning, no kindness, nothing but her uncouth attitude. Confused and unwilling to make a scene we thought it would be best to do so, however this was one of the worst experiences I’ve ever had with such a service. As young Christians me and my associates are no trouble and upon our exit, Marnie and Barb thought it would be in their best interest to patronize us during the exit.
Your staff needs to be handled immediately. They treated us with no human decency whatsoever, and I will report this even further because it was unnecessary and unfair treatment. Their entire attitude was absolutely uncalled for. The judgement that these two women displayed was infuriating to...
Read moreI go to Greensboro mainly to visit the Weatherspoon. For its intimate scale, there is great attention to making their institution a contributor not just to local culture but also to the greater art world. This is a challenge, but on any visit here you can learn not only something new about art (even if you're an art expert) but also how to 'bloom where you're planted' and maximize value for those around you.
This visit was for the "Seven Masters" exhibit of Japanese woodblock prints. The curators had access a unique collection and exactly the right space to show it in. The descriptions included refences to the growing military power and imperialism of Japan during the period of these works, which created a humbling experience. The nation was simultaneously trying both to recapture pride in a glorious past, as well as modernize and take a commanding role in the modern world. The whole exhibition was a stunning example of how understanding a nation depends on...
Read moreI use to work part time here and while I think they have a great personal collection they tend to either not have the space to properly show it or are too busy with visiting artists to show some of the world class pieces in the collection. Unfortunately I cannot recommend a vist for this reason unless you're a student at UNCG or want a very quick look at art of varying quality. Some not even by local artists like they use to love to advertise. The staff is great tho and they have coffee available to buy that I hear is great (I don't drink coffee so I can't confirm but it...
