A wonderful museum that keeps you engaged!
Recently, we attended the Sunday Funday event. We had been here a few times, but had never brought our young children and we’re very excited that they were doing something that was exciting for them.
When we first entered the parking lot, we noticed a really nice petting zoo. The kids got to feed the goats and pigs with a little bottle. The animals were thoroughly enjoying it.
Afterward, we headed up to the museum where we spotted the newly unveiled mosaic bell out front. They had scavenger hunt sheets, where the kids could look around on the mosaic and try to find the items. Once inside, we were all excited to see the art maze. The kids had a blast walking through and viewing the works of art on the cardboard, along with hitting dead ends and trying to make their way out. After this fun, we saw the pigeon in pants, which was just so cute.
Then it was time to go into the regular part of the museum so the kids could see what is normally on display and how they change things out. I think this is such an amazing thing to experience right in Westmoreland County. It’s nice to know that there is something more local without having to drive into Pittsburgh. Lots of amazing artists And even things for kids to do within the regular museum on a normal day.
On the main floor, there is a great gift shop and small café.
I really enjoy these types of events and also enjoy just visiting on the regular. Will return again and again and highly recommend!

Read moreThe original museum needed a good renovation new lights paint job floor cleaning the bathrooms redone. It was an easy and classic museum to travel through an experience the art. I found this renovation to be hideous. I'm still wondering what that thing is sticking off of a building which basically is a room that houses the timeline of the museum from its inception to its decline in appearance in 2024. The galleries are extremely confusing and you tend to get lost very easily. I know you fans of contemporary art will not like what I have to say but I don't think it belongs in that museum. There has to artists who are creating works of art of a classical nature, art that inspires beauty and Truth. The whole planet of the museum was not thought out very well on my first visit I could see wasted space over spent money on useless things and events and rooms that could be used for other things and many of the things that are housed in rooms could be placed in other venues in Greensburg. I also look at places regarding their landscaping and how the building complex sits within the environment. the disjointed and confused gardens in front of it holding perennials maybe nice during July August and September but the other months they're in dormancy and you basically look at gardens with no plans shrubs or trees in them. And let's not go into the defacement which looks like the underbelly of a corporate production plant... I have expected to see conduits of electrical lines and water pipes fiasco that they call a facade. All in all is an embarrassment to Westmoreland county and...
Read moreThe museum is most definitely worth your time, there's no doubt about it. The staff - from the customer service desk to the gallery attendants - were all very, very nice.
The entirety of the museum's main galleries are on the second floor, the collections ranging from Contemporary, Folk Art, and 19th/20th Century. With lots of delightful and thought provoking pieces (I caught 'The Art of Movement' exhibit and thought it incredible, mind-boggling, and amazing), there is something here for everyone, and everyone will find something here to like. The only issue I had was with the 'Southwestern Pennsylvania' room, as overwhelmingly beautiful as it is, there is simply no way to enjoy art when displayed 20 feet over your head.
Allow at least 90-120 minutes to enjoy the museum. There's a very fine gift shop that also has a limited choice of small beverages and snacks, but no other food, so eat before coming.
I'm glad I took the time...
