Thereâs parking available in the Olive and Peppers lot. Go in and turn left and go all the way down on the right. There are only 10 spots so I recommend going ant least 40 min early if youâre parking or getting dropped off.
We got coffee and breakfast at steep mountain. We wanted to buy wraps to take with us for lunch but they hadnât been dropped off yet.
The station itself is pretty run down, though youâre not there for long so itâs not bad. There are only two tracks and when we got there the attendant was sitting on the open track and the other one was locked. So just try both and see which one is open to know what direction you need to go in.
Once on the train, finding seats isnât too bad and lots of people get on/off at Johnstown and Altoona so we were able to change the seat we got then. Our cart didnât have ac but the other coach cars did so if yours is hot keep walking and youâll probably find one.
If youâre traveling on a weekend (Friday included) the cafe cart might run out of food. We went around 2 oâclock and there was barely anything left so either bring food or go early. They will give you ice for free which was a plus for filling our water bottles!
Also thereâs a water spigot of sorts for drinking (located near the bathrooms) and the bathrooms are pretty clean. Oh and the staff is friendly!
All in all not a bad experience but thought these tips might help someone...
Read moreI did my research to plan parking. The Amtrak website is out of date - the parking is free but first come first serve. I spoke with a very nice woman on the phone who told me where to park. Luckily I wrote down that there were 10 free spots, because when I arrived, all 10 were filled but there were 3 more totally unlabeled ones next to them (all the other spots had signs for the restaurant). I asked the guy at the station if those were free and he said no. Okay, that's annoying. But when I asked the unlabeled spots actually be labeled, he became increasingly argumentative. Legally, he is wrong, and professionally he was totally rude. The train station itself is run-down without proper seating at the platform. It works, I suppose, but I chose this station for the free parking and that was a huge disappointment. Why no more reservations and why argue when a traveler is asking for proper labeling? Luckily our Amtrak conductor (Matt) was super nice once we...
Read moreYou can only get on and off the train here. The rest of the station has been converted to offices and a restraunt that hasn't yet opened. The train is worth the money. The best way to get to nyc. The three star rating is for the train station only. The 42 Pennsylvanian gets five stars and is a good value. A very relaxing stress free trip to nyc. This is an update to the review. The restaurant has opened. I have not been there yet so no review for the resteraunt. An edit to this review. The resteraunt has opened. Haven't tried it yet, but it sure...
