I recently moved out of Greenwich Place with my family and I would not recommend it for families.
There were numerous issues during our time at Greenwich Place, starting with the fact that we were not able to preview our unit beforehand as management did not allow for any tours while units were occupied. We didn't know what we were getting into as we selected the unit based on model units that we viewed and the floor plan for the unit. We were unpleasantly surprised when we moved in and there was no turning back as we has signed a lease and management imposes an onerous 2 month penalty fee if you need to break your lease early.
We knew that our unit was "non-renovated" however we were surprised by the condition with old appliances (oven/fridge), hardly any counter space, and a tiny bathroom that made it very hard to give our kids a bath each night.
The complex is promoted as family friendly however there is hardly any green space anywhere in the complex and certainly no where safe for young children to walk or play. You have to use the main road where cars are driving and parking and even with a stroller there were numerous close encounters with cars.
There was no fence near our unit when we moved in, and it was finally installed several months after we made the request. We are unsure why this fence did not exist previously for safety as most other units had fencing. There are still many parts of the complex where the railings are not high enough to prevent a child from falling down a steep hill - for example the stairs down to the clubhouse.
The playground was extremely dirty and did not feel safe for kids to play on. We mentioned this to management many times and they said it would be addressed and cleaned, however it was not addressed before we moved out. It should have been addressed once the weather warmed up so kids could enjoy it but management had other revenue-generating priorities.
Management requires you pay a mandatory "valet" trash fee on to of your rent to have garbage picked up from your doorstep. The valet trash service did not come many times as per its' schedule and management did not do anything to resolve the issue, but rather instructed us to keep paying as the service is mandatory even though it was not provided consistently.
Finally, they had the audacity to try and charge us a move-out fee for scratches/glue on the floor when we moved out - however the apartment has been in poor condition for years before we moved in and this was not our doing. It's normal for there to be wear and tear in apartments and management should do a full thorough cleaning of the unit for those who move in next, without charging this to current residents.
For the numerous reasons stated above, we would not recommend this complex, especially for families with...

First off, the property borders the Greenwich Recycling Center so you hear the noise from the trucks and machinery at the facility.
My unit is “renovated”, which means finishes and appliances are updated, but with horrible craftsmanship. Fridge and dishwasher doors can’t open fully without hitting a wall or appliance so you can only partially use them. The oven sets off the smoke detector within minutes of preheating. The washer was connected incorrectly so it took ruining several loads of laundry to realize the installer swapped the hot and cold water lines. AC doesn’t work properly. Maintenance takes weeks to come.
The noise from neighbors is unbelievable! One of the staff told me that they “renovate” units to update finishes but the actual structure is the same as when it was built in the 70s - no improvement in soundproofing in 50 years. Management offered to let me transfer apartments because the noise is unbearable (woken up every night)…but only after telling me to file a few noise complaints with the police and only if I pay thousands of dollars in a “transfer fee”.
Management picks and chooses which parts of the lease (that we all signed) are enforceable and anything they don’t want to deal with, they’ll tell you it’s in your lease but doesn’t apply to this property. Can’t be legal..
You have to pay for monthly valet trash (which I don’t even have a bin for) and internet, which barely works. In addition, you’re paying for every type of utility you can imagine, as well as monthly pet fees if you have them.
You get one assigned parking spot and are lucky if someone else didn’t park there. With almost 300 apartments, there are only a handful of visitor spots at the bottom of the hill.
For the cost, it’s the worst rental I’ve...
Read moreAwful place to rent. I rented a first floor apartment near the water ( lake) or nasty duck pond with fountain. I was from out of town and expected them to be upfront and honest. I got there on my moving day and the apartment was full of cigarette smoke, and mold. I have a small dog and she was vomiting literally everyday. I had headaches. The rooms smelt damp and felt disgusting with the air quality. I stayed 3 nights and went to a hotel for the rest of the week. Canceled my lease and moved out. This is a health code violation for sure, and they should be ashamed to put people in units like this for the price point. No refund was given. I am appalled and disgusted by this situation. I had to pay for a mover to move my things to storage. And was made to pay for that out of pocket. The cigarette smoke stayed in my sofa and furniture and clothes for months. It was disgusting. They told me they aren’t a smoking building but essentially can’t control what their renters do… so basically they allow it. Don’t rent here if you want to keep your health in tact.--- ( My response, to your coment below) --You have a nasty lake front rental, with duck poop all over the property. It was definitely your place, so nice try... and you do allow smoking as I mentioned above, because your manager told me you can't make your tenants not smoke, so basically they can smoke. You also tried to cover it up, but the horrendous smell is in the walls and the floors of your apartments. You need to renovate your apartments, and remove the drywall to fix it. I am in the construction business, and there is no way to get rid of cigarette smoke unless you do that, paint won't do it. You are in a major violation of health code with the state of CT. You take advantage of people and you should of not made me pay the month rent and should of covered my mover I had to pay for again to move out...
