I've been to this museum twice, roughly ten years apart. Both times it was awesome. The building is amazing, looking very medieval with its huge stone walls. It is very old, for this country, built 1639/40 a time when the New England colonies were still using pikes, matchlock muskets, armor and still believed in witchcraft.
You get to explore the large house on a self guided tour, looking at various artifacts. The colonial clock and Wheelock musket in the Garret were some of my favorite pieces. I also really liked the write up about the house as you come in.

There are 3 levels in the main house and the staircases connecting each floor are very narrow and dimly lit. While the staff was very welcoming, even giving a short introduction to the home prior to the self-guided tour, I wish I had been alerted to the challenging staircases and dim lighting.
