I've been to this museum twice, roughly ten years apart. Both times it was awesome. The building is amazing, looking very medieval with its huge stone walls. It is very old, for this country, built 1639/40 a time when the New England colonies were still using pikes, matchlock muskets, armor and still believed in witchcraft.

You get to explore the large house on a self guided tour, looking at various artifacts. The colonial clock and Wheelock musket in the Garret were some of my favorite pieces. I also really liked the write up about the house as you come in.

The staff is very friendly (both visits) and informative about the area. I will definitely return one day.

The place is also gorgeous with a large...

My wife and I visited the Henry Whitfield State Museum on 10/3/2024, and it was a wonderful experience. The museum is housed in a charming 17th-century building, which adds an authentic touch to the historical exhibits. The three floors are packed with interesting artifacts and furniture from the time, and the staff were incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, providing plenty of background information that enhanced our experience. It wasn’t busy at all, making it even more enjoyable. We left feeling like we’d stepped back in time—definitely...

I wanted to mention that this historic building can be challenging for visitors with vision loss or mobility issues. There are 3 levels in the main house and the staircases connecting each floor are very narrow and dimly lit. While the staff was very welcoming, even giving a short introduction to the home prior to the self-guided tour, I wish I had been alerted to the challenging staircases and dim lighting. It is a beautiful and well-tended collection, but may be challenging for...

Very cool spot with some very interesting history. The staff there was super nice and knowledgeable about the house and area. Everything was very clean and well kept in the house. Pretty much everything in the house is well labeled by small labels or in papers that you can flip through. There’s also a really nice small gift shop and more history in the separate building.
