We needed three rooms for our group of four. Two of us are single, two are a couple. It is important to note that we stayed in the FISHERMANS QUARTERS rooms. This is the older of the two buildings they have here. one is older and the other is newer. We visited to fish in the winter season. When checking their rates be sure to click in the date so that you can get the best rate for that time of year. When we booked the advertised price was the full price, taxes and everything. The rooms were VERY affordable and offered exactly what we needed. Things really shut down in this village when the tourist season ends. That works well for fishermen. The drive to the southern tip of the island can really save you some money if you are seeking an offshore charter and lodging. Nov. first, many of the businesses were closed for the winter or running shorter hours for the slow season. You will still be able to find good dining and basic needs met right here in town. When fishing, you don't need a fancy room, you want a safe, clean, quiet, comfortable, and dry place to sleep and relax at days end. This offers exactly that. The rooms have a front porch to sit on at the end of the day. Refrigerator was helpful. Tile floors are very clean (no sand on the floors, NO moldy smells)). Everything was clean and in great condition, a bit dated but in excellent condition. THERE ARE NEWER AND NICER ROOMS AVAILABLE HERE. Those rooms have waterfront views of the docks. You can pay a bit more for those if that is what you want. With the "fisherman's quarters" rooms you have an old style motor inn. You can park your car right at your rooms front door. If you are fishing the big head boats, you have a 30 second walk to the dock in the morning and upon your return. If you are taking a charter out of one of the other marinas you will be within two or three minutes of your destination. If your trip is about fishing from Hatteras, I do not think that there is a better, and more affordable option available. This was exactly what I was wanting for this trip. I hope to...
Read moreMy husband and I absolutely love the Outer Banks, and Hatteras Island is our go-to spot when we need to unplug and reset. We make it a point to visit at least two or three times a year, and Breakwater Inn has always been one of our favorite places to stay.
This past weekend, we planned a spontaneous getaway after a tough month and hit the road for an eight-hour drive. We arrived at Breakwater Inn around 4:00 a.m., only to find that our key was not in the after-hours lockbox. Understandably, we were exhausted and frustrated.
We called the emergency number and received a call back around 5:00 a.m. from April, the owner of Breakwater Inn. Within five minutes, April was on-site. She immediately took charge, explained that the hotel was at full capacity, and without hesitation, made arrangements for us to rest at another local hotel, at no cost to us. She assured us she would handle everything, and she did.
Later that day, we checked back into Breakwater Inn and found our room perfectly prepared, cool, clean, and welcoming. April went above and beyond by not only covering both stays but also comping us dinner at the Breakwater Inn Restaurant, which we had never tried before. What a pleasant surprise! The food and service were phenomenal, one of the best meals we've had in the Outer Banks. We will definitely make it a point to dine there every trip moving forward.
April’s quick action, professionalism, and genuine care turned what could have been a stressful experience into a wonderful reminder of why we love Breakwater Inn so much. She truly saved our trip, and we are so grateful. April, thank you for making everything right and for giving us yet another reason to keep coming back. You have our loyalty!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 stars, highly recommended to anyone visiting...
Read moreThe location was great as it was very close to the boat ramp. The room was fairly clean but had a strong musty or moldy odor. The two other rooms we checked also had the same odor. The smell bothered my wife to the point that we had to leave one day early. The management still charged us for the final night of our reservation even though it was the condition of the room that forced us to leave. The hotel advertises free WiFi but you can't access it from your room due to the weak signal. The free breakfast was adequate, consisting of bagels, instant oatmeal, fruit, and packaged muffins and danishes. You'll have to bring your own juice though; only coffee, tea, and water was available to drink. In the evenings, free brownies were available. If you are are a group of guys looking for a decent place to stay and can overlook the odor...well I still would not recommend this place. If I ever return to Hatteras, I will...
