My wife and I recently did the Maritime Mutiny escape room with our children (ages 6 & 7) and could not have had a better experience. The staff are incredibly friendly and helpful. We have also done numerous escape rooms at many venues (at least 10 different venues), and Escape Room Herndon is by far the best place we have been.
In addition to Maritime Mutiny, my wife and I have also done 8-bit escape and the Magician's Workshop (probably the best room I have ever done), and have also done rooms that used to be at ERH such as Escape from Room 213. Every single room has been so well thought out and executed. We have left ERH each time saying how much we enjoyed the experience. We have also brought friends and family (both experienced escapers and folks new to the experience), and have always had a great time.
The little things at ERH also help to make the experience. For example when you solve a riddle or lock, something clearly pops open or resolves so that you feel the satisfaction of solving a riddle. We have done rooms where you solve a clue or complete a milestone in the room and you aren't even sure if you've done something good. Another little thing is the way that clues are communicated at ERH. Each room has a screen and if you need a clue, the game master will type a clue and post it on the screen. This has been by far the best mechanism for communicating clues as needed.
I can't say enough good things about Escape Room Herndon. Regardless of your skill set, you will have a great time at ERH. ...
Read moreWe are enthusiasts who have done close to 100 games, mostly as a two person team. We did all four of their games. The games are all good - I wouldn't call this a "must visit destination" but if you are in the area they are worth a go.
Graverobbers Dilemma -5/5. Great room. Everything flowed and made sense logistically. The room was pretty linear, but that is fine with two people. Couple of unique elements I haven't seen before.
Magicians Workshop - 5/5. Easily their best room. This room is fun - and has several "magic tricks" in it. If you only do one, make it this one.
Maritime Mutiny - 4/5 Too easy becomes too hard. If you make it out with more than 20 minutes to spare you get four "bonus" puzzles. We made it out of the original game with something like 28 minutes left. It was a fine game - but just too short. We then had the remaining time to do the bonus puzzles. They were more of overly hard brain teasers. They just weren't fun. We declared after 10 minutes we weren't having fun and just stopped with the bonus puzzles. It kinda left a bad taste and felt like we didn't win anymore.
8-bit escape - 3.5/5. Everyone loves this game - I expected to love it. And I didn't. In the games defense it was our last game, at 9pm, and I was tired, so maybe it was us. The game felt really linear - like even with two people we were always having to do the same thing. Not sure - maybe it was just me at the end of the long day.
Overall, we LOVED the first two. The second two were fine - but not as top tier as...
Read moreThis is so fun! 60 minutes passed super fast. It is private, recommend magician’s room. We definitely will visit again
Update we visited 3 days in a row and this is our recommendation
Magician room ★★★★★ This room is really fun. Because of this room, we played 3 days in a row. In this room, you should think out of the box. Teamwork is the key to escape, and just shout out loud, when you have to say something. You can experience lots of magic in this room.
8 bit Escape ★★★★☆ Maybe we expected too much, I like games, but it was difficult for me because I didn't know much about 80s games. Especially, if you are not interested in the game, and also not a native English speaker, you might have a little bit hard time thinking about the message. However, the story overall is fun and mini-games are pretty enjoyable.
The Graverobber's dilemma ★★★★☆ It was easier than the other two rooms. But my friend and I have different opinions. My friend pretty much like this room, and enjoy solving problems. However, I felt like I was playing a horror game because the room was dark, and there were creepy things around.(insects and animal exhibit is okay to me) Maybe I was too focused, I felt like the murderer was hiding somewhere and watching us playing. Anyway, my friend said that she really enjoyed as much as the...
