DON’T LET THE PICTURES FOOL YOU! Let me start by saying, this is an unemotional review; I’ll simply state the facts. My wife & I spent almost $10,000. (5 nights) for a once in a lifetime family Christmas @ The Hotel Hochatown. I lead a ministry which requires renting many VRBO/Airbnb type properties. I only mention this to establish I have many points of reference to compare w/ our experience at The Hotel Hochatown. I’d also like to establish up front that, in the past, I had a trip where the wheels fell off & still left a stellar review because unexpected things happen…that’s just life. The stellar review was based on the way the business owner went above & beyond to address the situation. That was not the case here. From the moment we arrived we encountered one disappointing thing after another. 1st, based on the description & pics, we all expected a beautiful secluded mountain getaway. Actually, it’s on the corner of a main road with neighbors everywhere. 2nd, I get having security cameras to monitor the outside, but it’s just plain creepy to have them mounted above the front doors inches from your face. 3rd, when we first entered the house, I noticed the main rug had a high curled-up edge which had been that way for a while. I actually said, “that’s dangerous, someone could trip”. Our 2-year-old grandson did trip & fell head first into a table & sustained a large knot on his forehead. When, I notified Sean, he asked if he was okay, but nothing was done. Regarding appliances, one would think by the pics this was almost a commercial kitchen. Not so, their frig/freezer icemaker was broken, & had obviously been that way evidenced by the bag of ice left by the previous guests. On the frig side, the top shelf froze everything. One morning we had to clean exploded soda off the inside of the frig. The oven cooked very unevenly. The first time I used it, the sausage balls near the door were perfect, while the ones in back were burnt. The kitchen trashcan was very frustrating as well. The deck grill was also a mess; dirty, inoperable knobs, & heat plates out of place which I could not get to. 2 washers & 2 dryers are great if they all work, but only one of the dryers worked. Final kitchen bug count: 1 spider, 1 beetle, & 1 large roach. Now the worst part. Christmas eve, all the adults went outside to watch White Christmas on the tv above the outdoor fireplace. We could have tolerated the black line on the tv screen, but the smell of raw sewerage was so intense none of us could stay outside. If it had been any stronger it would have triggered a gag reflex, & we had to deal with a foul smell the entire stay. That night, my oldest son wanted to contact the owners. I’ve never seen him want to do something like that - it took a lot for him to want to call. I contacted Sean about everything…he did nothing, except say, “I’ll let maintenance know.” Another creepy thing: The one time we all left the cabin to go into town for dinner, I got a text from Sean saying he had his crew leave us something. When we got back to the cabin, we discovered, someone, uninvited & unannounced, had come into the cabin and left a basket of goodies on the kitchen counter. It was very creepy & we felt a little violated. A gift basket is a great idea, but when you have cameras watching the doors, so you know when no one is there, you “leave a gift basket,” that’s creepy! When you spend almost 10K for a few days @ a “luxury” cabin & there are issues, you don’t want to hear, “I’ll let maintenance know”, you want & rightfully expect, the owner/manager to make an effort to correct the situation(s). In the end, this is not a property problem, it’s an owner problem. One last thing; after we left, we received an email that thanked us for staying with them & asked that we please give them a five-star review, & if there were any issues, to please let them know directly. In other words, please tell everyone everything was great, even if it wasn’t. It is my sincere hope Sean & Cambria will own this review & respond in a manner commensurate with a good...
Read moreThis property is better than the pics. Brand new and top of the line! Our party of 13 spent 4 nights here and it couldn't have been better. The layout of the house is perfect for community, with all the common areas in the center of the house. It was nonstop pool, air hockey, ping pong, corn hole, and games all week and we made fantastic memories! The deck is the nicest in Broken Bow. It's HUGE, w outdoor kitchen, massive grill, hot tub, two big TVs, outdoor fireplace, etc. We spent the entire week out back on the deck and the fire pit. Basketball court is awesome too! The best part about this house is you never have to leave to have a great time. 10/10 would stay here again. The owner reached out multiple times before, during, and after the trip to check on us and was very helpful with any questions we had. Just an...
Read moreWe truly enjoyed our recent two-night stay at Hotel Hochatown. This place has everything! From the beautiful and comfortable decor to the backyard sport court, we were blown away. There was plenty of space for our family of five, and both sets of grandparents had their own spacious bedroom suites without climbing the stairs. While we opted to go into town for lunch one day, we otherwise had no reason to leave the house the entire weekend. The place has lots of amenities to keep everyone entertained. And our hosts, Sean and Cambria, were gracious and responsive from check-in to departure. We would definitely stay here again. You won’t be...
