1-Star Review
My family and I were excited to visit Camden Park for the first time, expecting a fun and welcoming place for our children to play and cool off. Unfortunately, our experience was anything but pleasant, largely due to the treatment we received from park staff and security.
Around 7:15 PM, while we were sitting near the water play area, a staff member approached my mom, sister, and me and unexpectedly asked in Spanish, “¿Por qué llegaron tan tarde?” (“Why did you get here so late?”). The question felt inappropriate and out of place. I responded that it had been hot earlier, which is why we came in the evening. We were surrounded by other families and children at the time, all enjoying the space.
About 20 minutes later, the same staff member returned with two others and a security guard. They instructed us and nearby families to leave the water and table area, stating it needed to be cleaned. I noticed one had a leaf blower in hand, so we complied without issue. I gathered my children and went to the family restroom to change them.
When we came back, my children rode their scooters along the paved area while other families remained around the park. They then asked to climb the rope structure, and I followed them closely. As we reached the upper ramp, the security guard called out, telling me to get my kids and leave the children’s play area.
Before I could even reach my 3- and 5-year-olds, he began flashing an extremely bright flashlight directly into their eyes. This happened before 8:30 PM—well before closing time—and while the park was still active with other families.
I immediately approached him, upset, and told him that flashing a light at small children’s faces was completely unacceptable. The entire interaction left us feeling singled out, disrespected, and unwelcome. There was no clear communication, and the enforcement of rules seemed inconsistent and unfair.
What should have been a joyful family outing turned into a stressful and disappointing experience. I hope Camden Park management seriously reviews how their staff interacts with guests, especially families with...
Read moreThis park is very clean and busy most of the time. Because it’s the hot, new park, it’s been super busy since its opening. It has a children’s area; some seating; a stage for movie nights and performances; two dog areas; and a little cafe.
We overall enjoy the dog areas; however, one customer has made it uncomfortable for us when we go. Until recently, there has been an elderly woman I see trying to monopolize the small dog park for her, her dog, and friend(s). She came in one day angrily wanting my dog out of the small dog park, saying he’s “too big” (and not saying anything to anyone else). My dog isn’t much bigger than hers and mine is much more well behaved than hers (her dog barks and tries to bite whenever we’ve passed each other). The woman always gives an attitude. It seemed that the old woman behaved this way to another lady one day too (she had a small dog as well), and that lady just left the dog park and walked her dog instead. She didn’t even get to enter pass the gate. 😬
The story above isn’t against the park, but something I want to mention when negative people find nice things and don’t like to share.
Regarding staff, I think it’s been ok for me so far. I’m only acquainted with one guard, and he seems chill.
As for the cafe staff, my first experience with them was ordering a drink and the worker forgot or something because it was 20+ min later that I received it. Yeah…
I have occasionally seen children in the dog areas unsupervised. This is a bit annoying, but I think the park does its best to prevent or warn folks, but you know, many parents just let their kids run around here unsupervised.
There is almost never any ample parking by the hotel; the best parking is on the library side which I think a lot of people miss. There is some parking across the street too; you’d just have to cross the streetlights but you’re still relatively close by.
Bathrooms are relatively clean.

Visited Camden Park recently and had a ridiculous encounter with SEAL Security — specifically a guard named Lasanuga, who apparently thinks his job includes giving out unsolicited fitness advice. The man seemed oddly obsessed with my weight, making repeated comments about how skinny I was, how I “need to hit the gym,” and even comparing me to my partner.
Instead of doing his job professionally, he was more focused on personal jabs than enforcing any real rules. He and the other guards tried to force us out at 8:51 PM, even though the park closes at 9, and there were plenty of other people still around. When I didn’t leave early, things escalated — with unnecessary attitude and harassment from multiple staff. Anyway mister Lasenuga first approached by shining a light directly in my face multiple times (strobe mode) and came in yelling… then he proceeded to hurl insults with threatening body language. He should not be given a firearm. He also insisted on following us all the way out to the entrance until a real officer had to get him out the way. He even disrespected my wife unfortunately. — I must add that the park supervisor, instead of backing me rightfully, decided to tell the guard to put his hands one me on top of screaming at me as heard in the below video. (Blue shirt, hat)
Camden Park is a great space, but the security team’s conduct is unprofessional at best. If the District cares about community trust, they need to look into who they’re hiring to...
