I’m genuinely disappointed writing this because I had a great experience my first time here. The staff is incredibly friendly, and I returned specifically to book with the same barber, Diamond, because she did such a great job before. Unfortunately, this time was completely different.
From the start, I could tell she was rushing through my haircut. When I asked to see the back of my head, I noticed it wasn’t blended properly. I politely asked for it to be fixed, and even after several attempts, it still wasn’t right. At that point, I started feeling unsure if she actually knew how to correct it or was just cutting it shorter, which I didn’t want.
Eventually, she got it somewhat blended, but it was far from perfect. What made things worse was how visibly frustrated she became with me for asking it to be fixed. She even said, “Okay, I’m done after this,” in a tone that made me really uncomfortable. I was confused — I’m the customer, she’s the professional, and I was simply asking for the mistake to be corrected.
She mentioned she could see the area wasn’t blending and said she didn’t know why, which honestly made me question her training. Then she made a rude comment implying maybe it was just the shape of my head. I was in disbelief — I’ve never had a barber say something like that before.
Later in the day, I realized how uneven and short my hair looked — exactly what I didn’t want. Multiple people even noticed and joked, “Does your barber hate you?” That really made me feel insecure about my haircut, which is the last thing you want after leaving a high-end barbershop like this.
I didn’t feel comfortable going back to have it fixed after how she acted, so I went to a local barber who immediately saw the issue and fixed the blending.
For the price you pay at The Gents Place, you expect better training, professionalism, and quality. Diamond is very sweet as a person, but unfortunately, she gave me one of the worst haircuts I’ve ever had. I won’t be returning, and I hope the management takes this as constructive feedback to ensure consistency and proper training for...
Read moreThe place is nice, the service is good at the salon, staff very friendly, but at the same time this is to be expected when my haircut there costs well over $100 with tip. My frustration came when on Tuesday I confirmed a Thursday appointment, twice. On Wednesday I get a missed call, and then a text saying "Your hair stylist will be working different hours tomorrow and we need to either reschedule you during the new hours, or someone else can do your service. My first response was, well this isn't my fault, I'm not exactly close to you guys, and I've had this on my calendar for a month, and my afternoon calendar is planned around it. Why am I the one who has to rearrange his schedule on such short notice? I was offered a 10% discount for the inconvenience. Wow, thanks for the $8.50 discount on an $85 haircut. I was glad to see how my time is valued. They then said well someone else can do your cut to which I replied "so when you go to your appointment time to get your hair cut/colored/styled etc. you are happy with whoever they assign to you, or do you have someone specific in mind?" Was very disappointed in the response and how little they valued my time. Its not like this place is around the corner for me and they happen to be on one of the busiest streets in Houston next to the busiest highway, it takes a minute or two to get there! Wasn't expected this from an $85 haircut. There are plenty of other high end salons in the city. Won't be back again,...
Read moreMen. Look no further. Do not be enticed by one bottle of shiner and a subpar haircut at an imposter. The Gents Place has a level of sophistication that I have long been looking for. You truly feel like you’re a member of a social club. The entire staff is inviting and welcoming. Sue, manager of the Hair team, is topnotch. She is a true professional and leads a tight ship. Each haircut comes with multiple top shelf drinks. Beer, whiskey, vodka, wine you name it. There is an actual bar where people hang out and network before and after. They have a private lounge area for people needing to attend to business during their work day.
Need your shoes shined? No problem. The Gents Place has a great setup for that as well. And if you are a member you get multiple complimentary shines a month.
I’m not one for all the extras but if you are they seem to have that covered. Saw something about nose waxes and hand rubs. Hey, whatever floats your boat.
This is not a run of the mill trendy Haircut shop. This is truly a professional and country club like experience. The owner, Jeff Stocks, was in during my visit and it is extremely clear how much he cares about the success of this company. Do yourself a favor and try it out. Hope to bump into you sometime.
Only recommendation was that they add Coors Light to the menu. Ha.
Oh and don’t forget that the valet works for The Gents Place as well. So drop your keys off...
