Houston Gym is a wonderful place to workout - especially for beginners who find it tough to start or might feel intimidated (like how I felt when I started). This is such a welcoming place, right from the front door to everything inside. The staff are truly wonderful, extremely helpful, friendly and encouraging. Even better are the other patrons who use this gym. Every single person I have seen is wonderful and just go about their business and workout routines. Compared to other gyms I have tried previously, where people tend to show off, drop weights aggressively, make loud noises or yell, etc., the patrons here are genuinely wonderful and nice people (who sometimes even help out with a few questions or similar). They are accommodating and willing to adjust their routines if someone else if using an equipment they want to use. All of this made it very helpful and easy for me to overcome my hesitation and anything there was that might have been intimidating. I think all of this comes down to the expectations set by the Gym Staff and Owners who have made this gym a place where everyone is welcome without any judgment.

A special shoutout to Big Jon - my personal trainer. He is such a wonderful guy, knows what he is doing and is amazing in his ability to judge where I am on a given day, and recommend workout routines based on my needs as well as my body. In just a couple of months, I am seeing significant improvements (considering I have never been to a gym previously in a regular, dedicated and committed manner) combined with healthy diet and daily active lifestyle. Big Jon took time to understand my body, strength, and needs at the beginning. He gradually eased me in to a point where he starts pushing me now to weights and routines that I never thought I was capable of doing even two months ago. I can say the same of the other trainers and staff too, based on my observations - and all of them are truly wonderful, warm and kind people. I meet with Big Jon twice a week (and he is extremely accommodating as well if I am out of town for any reason and reschedules without hesitation) and then do my routines on my own the rest of the week. Big Jon constantly motivates me and inspires me to push myself above and beyond.

The Gym itself is very well equipped, never feels crowded at any time and one can pretty much do a full body workout and beyond here. The space is clean, equipments are great and people are responsible to put things back in place.

Is a personal trainer + monthly gym fee worth it? ABSOLUTELY. Considering the World we live in now, a healthy lifestyle doesn’t come cheap. Further, a healthy lifestyle is absolutely important as one gets older. The sooner one starts, the better. But it’s always better late than never and no age is too late. Given increasing scientific and clinical evidence of lifestyle factors playing a huge role in various age-related diseases and illness, having a healthy body and mind is absolutely essential and in the long term, the benefits of healthy aging is immense and priceless. I highly recommend Houston Gym...

Short answer: great and highly recommend. Long answer: Everyone here is super nice, it really feels like home. I’ve been acquainted with the staff and they’ve all contributed to boosting me up when I see them. Big Jon set me up with the plan I need and can afford, and he gives a big brother vibe. Jay and I became good friends and now we workout together almost every time. He helped me understand how to use literally everything in there and I’m more comfortable with the machines. Josh is a personal trainer here, he will work you out like Ramsey Gordon from hell’s kitchen... just kidding. He does train you the best way for your goals though, and will motivate you during then. I’ve had the pleasure of working with him, and I’m extremely pleased with what he taught me. Josh understood my limitations, was very empathetic, and helped me push my limits safely to my benefit. You’ll get a couple of free sessions, and you won’t have to worry about a follow up session being super expensive. Also, Alex is another staff member who occasionally gave me advice on good workouts, and helped when he saw me struggle with something. Daryle is the sweetest thing too, he’s very approachable if you need help or have any questions about the machines or something like that. I’ve seen him train people and they looked focused and sweaty which means he’s guiding them good. Adam is super sweet as well. Everyone here is helpful and will definitely remember your name. The gym takes suggestions seriously, and they’re very considerate of their members’ needs. There’s a tanning room, massage room, and free yoga and aerobics classes included in your membership which is awesome. They have tissues to clean up the equipment before and after usage if you don’t like using them after someone, and the bathroom has deodorant, lotion, and blow dryer which is very thoughtful. There are some essential items that you may have bought for you but they provide them for use such as wrist support, or leg bands, as well as foam rollers. Customer traffic has peak hours, but if you like less people around you can come at times that aren’t peak hours. I hope I’m not forgetting anything... bottom line, it will be your happy place to...

My first time going to Houston gym I was kindly approached by a trainer Who expressed concern while watching me do Deadlifts. It has now been seven months since Justin Nelson and I have started training together and my confidence and body have truly transformed. This is bc he has been more than a coach and a motivator; he has also been my teacher in and out of the gym.

In our first meeting together I told Justin how I was wanting to put on more muscle mass in my lower body but I was becoming frustrated because I wasn’t seeing any more growth. He really listened to me because from the first session we’ve had till now he has broken movements, positioning and weights down to a science, making sure I am understanding which muscles I’m targeting and how. Teaching me which muscles to target and how to properly engage them during every movement has given me the knowledge I was previously lacking to see the growth I’ve always wanted. Justin training me to understand and listen to my body has helped us mold it into what I’ve had other trainers tell me was “impossible”. I have put on 8 pounds of muscle mass in my lower body in just seven months and I know that would not not have happened with anyone else. I’m so thankful to Justin I recommend him to everyone. He knows everyone is an individual with different yet specific goals and has the education and experience...
