umping Jax Sack. First of all there is a significant difference between the Belaire location and this one. The Heights location is a higher quality restaurant. The staff seem to take more care and effort and attempt to connect with their client.
Second - I have eaten at this restaurant on a regular basis sine it opened in the 90's and I must say that they have been consistently good. The Chicken fried Chicken is as good as I have had in Houston. The West Texas Burger is probably my favorite burger in town. And the very odd Fajitas are really good.
Third - They have regularly surprised me with the specials. More often than not the specials left me thinking that I was eating at a more expensive establishment.
Fourth - Live music! This is an old Texas community atmosphere that crosses cultural boundaries with great success. Years ago I brought my 3 year old daughter out one Friday night to hear a zydeco band.... I almost cried when she grabbed the hand of an elderly man and beaconed him to dance with her. The two were from different generations and different cultural backgrounds and this simply did not seem to matter to either of the two of them.....
To me places like Jax bring our community back together. And the fact that they do have very good food is an added bonus.
Oh and if you want a great desert try the Jax Sack with 6 or 8 of your friends. It...
Read moreJax is the place to go, if you want your entire family to have a great time!! In this relaxed environment, all age groups mix and mingle, the adults may have a few drinks, and everyone dances until 11pm when they close!
Fried catfish nuggets and chicken wings are my go to meal...always golden brown and seasoned to perfection!! However, my cousin had a grilled chicken salad that looked absolutely delicious. It seemed to have just the right combo of greens and other veggies, topped with chunks of chicken breast! It looked so good that I may have to switch up my meal choice next time.
On Fridays, they have a live zydeco band. The dance floor is always filled, and every age group and skill level is represented! When I have gone on Fridays, the crowd is primarily African American, but had a good mixture of Hispanic, Caucasian , and a sprinkle of Asian folks.
I’ve gone about 3-4 times so far, and I’ve enjoyed it each time. The reason I gave Jax 4 stars instead of 5, is because on the most recent time I went, they had a plumbing problem and had to close an hour early.
Finally, the band typically starts playing around 6. It would be nice if Jax would offer Zydeco dancing lessons for an hour before the band starts. My friends, family, and I would definitely pay to...
Read moreSo, my co worker and I order here quite often. Most of the time the orders are on point and correct. However, apparently there has been a shift in workers at this Shepherd location because the orders are consistently wrong.
Today, in fact the order was wrong yet again. I finally decided to call in and complain. I get a manager on the phone by the name of Rosa. She not only called me a liar but then had the audacity to hang up on me. So this is how Jax Grill treats their customers like crap!!!!! I will never refer anyone to go there nor will I ever eat there again. I will make it a point to spread the word on how I was treated but how incorrect the orders were and the fact that they did not seem to care,
Rosa is rude and is not manager material. You dont hang up in customers. You dont tell them they are liars. I do not make it a profession to call places that I eat at just to complain and get free food. Hopefully others will read this and make sure they check their food and also check the people that are handling customers at these establishments.
I will make sure I take my money down the road to a restaurant who will treat customers the way they deserve...
