I am extremely dissatisfied with my experience with Huntington Harbor Boat rentals. I booked a 2-hour Duffy Boat for a going away party for my wife’s best friend. My wife and her friends were going to be the ones on the boat, but I paid for it. I wanted to make it special, so I rented the Pink Duffy boat and added the balloon package to make it look nice. I made the reservation on June 10th, for June 14th (booked within a 7 day time frame-you will see why I am mentioning this later). My wife and her friends were very excited about the boat, but we unfortunately found out that our boat reservation was planned on the “No Kings Day” protest on June 14th. There were 2 planned Protests in Huntington Beach near the Harbor that day. Being that protests have in some cases turned violent (not in all cases, but need to be safe), I thought it was best not to send my wife and 9 friends by themselves on a boat near potential danger. The news was reporting that the national guard was called to monitor the events, so this isn’t a small thing that made us uncomfortable to be in the area. I am sure any reasonable person would make the same decision.
So we cancelled the reservation on June 13th around 3pm and explained the reason why. The person I spoke to on the phone stated that since the cancellation was completed over 24 hours, he would issue me a refund, but he was not sure if he could issue a refund for the balloons, since they purchase them when the package was purchased. He would ask and get back to me. I later received an email stating that I received store credit in the full amount of the rental that can be used at a later time. First, my wife’s friend has moved at this point, so we will not need the reservation any longer or wish to do so at this time. Also, I live 90 miles away, this was a 1 time get together, and this was a middle ground for friends who live in LA. Since I was previously told that I would be issued a refund, I called and spoke to someone regarding the credit, which should have been a refund. The individual I spoke to stated that the policy is that you receive credit if you cancel at least 24 hours in advance, and a full refund is allowed with 7 days’ notice (which is ridiculous in this day and age). I booked 4 days out, how can I cancel within 7 days? I didn’t review the cancellation policy prior, because I had not intention to cancel. But reviewing now, it does not address bookings under 7 days in the contract, so this wouldn’t hold up. I explained to the person I spoke to, who later spoke to the owner, about the safety concern, as well as me living 90 miles away. The suggestion was to find someone else to use the reservation and have them give me the money. Are you serious? Why not do the right thing?
Honestly, I would take the rental credit since I’ve booked here several times in the past for company events and when I lived closer to the area, but I feel like they are trying to force my patronage when there was a potentially dangerous situation. The safety of my family and friends is more important than $400. I don’t intend to drive 90 miles to use this credit, if they need it that bad, they can have it. I have referred a lot of people here, its just is disappointing. I know small businesses thrive off of word of mouth, and I have referred several people to this establishment. This ends today, after having...
Read moreRented an electric boat as an afterthought to a morning of SUPing the canals yesterday. We had rented the SUPS (and kayaks) at another shop down the street. We walked in without a reservation, and, at first, we were told they didn't have any boats available for several hours. Then, suddenly, one of the ladies there (owner??) started working on getting us a boat by shifting another reservation (the party that had reserved was, of course, asked if they would be willing to switch to another location). Within 30 minutes they had us out on the water. The place is clean. Boats are clean and running properly, and they won't put you in one if it's not (we KNOW, because they took a few extra minutes to check out a funny "noise" that was sounding off in the boat from time to time BEFORE we left the dock, to make sure all was shipshape! We were told, just in case, that if there was a problem, to call from our mobile and they'd be right out to get us. I feel confident that this would have been handled promptly had we gotten stranded.). The employees are friendly and courteous … and this was all on a super-busy Sunday afternoon! I would go back there in a heartbeat! It's so nice to work with a...
