I enjoy the Morrison-Knudsen Nature Center! It's a path you can enter from the greenbelt, so during the day, it's always open. There may be a building... I'm not actually sure, but I've walked the path a lot. Dogs, skates, and bikes aren't allowed. It's got a pond and streams. It's a very pretty place. In the pond, they have a lot of fish (no fishing) to look at and a couple that are really big.
As you walk along the path, there are a couple of spots that are set below the water line with windows so you can see into the water at the bottom of the stream. Today, I saw several fish and three crayfish. They have family friendly interactive things along the path as well. I saw a large replica of a bird's nest that you can get into and take pictures.
There are signs describing the wildlife in the area and explaining what they do. There are also lookout spots branching off the loop where you can stand and enjoy the nature.
It isn't super long of a path, but you could stay awhile looking at the fish or sitting and enjoying...
Read moreMost Boiseans know about this but most visitors and newcomers don't. It is a real treasure. There is an outdoor wetlands interpretive area which includes a large pond stocked with several species of local fish including sturgeon. There is an interpretive walk with underwater viewing areas. The life cycle of fish is explained at each of these viewing portals. The area also includes trails that explain the natural flora and fauna of Idaho with many displays of each. Lots of interactive things for children. Don't forget to visit the indoor nature center where their are a lot more interpretive displays and activities for kids of all ages. The entire complex is affiliated with the Idaho Department of Fish and Game but much of it is done by volunteers. There is plenty of free parking. It is also accessible from the green belt and Municipal Park (now called the Kristin Armstrong Park named after a local...
Read moreThis review is solely based on this past experience we otherwise absolutely love the nature center. In 5 years we have never had an issue, the staff and volunteers are always kind even if redirection is needed. She then directed us to “take them to the park where that sort of behavior is appropriate.”We ran into her near the sensory garden where the children were giggling and shouting for each other to come see something they found and she made a very unnecessary comment “I guess the no running or yelling didn’t stick huh?” We...
