The food is marginally more expensive than other Mexican restaurants in town and it comes out from the kitchen so quickly, you have to wonder how much care they really take in preparing it.
My parents used to eat there eat on a regular basis, maybe 2-3 times a week. On one, unfortunate occasion, my dad got food poisoning there. Doctors determined this was caused by a Campylobacter infection from eating raw or undercooked poultry or eating something that touched it. In rare cases, this infection can cause a syndrome called Guillain-Barré, a disorder in which a person’s own immune system damages the nerves, causing muscle weakness and sometimes paralysis. Unfortunately, my dad contracted Guillain-Barré as a result. He spent 5 months in full-time care facilities, learning to walk and feed himself again. Three years later, he still has no feeling in his hands.
The fact that this was caused by food poisoning at La Tapatia is not reckless speculation. Countless hours of research by both of my parents and the teams of doctors who have been treating my dad have concluded that is the most logical explanation.
My parents are exceedingly loyal. They didn't want the people who worked there - people who had always been so kind to them - to feel bad. Recently, after restaurants started to re-open after the COVID-19 shutdown, my mom went there to grab some takeout for her and my dad. When she arrived, the staff were not wearing masks - none of them. When my mom confronted them about it, their attitude was that it was okay - not necessary.
I will never eat there. Ever. And it shouldn't...
Read moreI was on my way to another place, passed by and thought Mexican food sounds better than my original thought. I'm glad I stopped and are lunch here.
Location: they are located in a strip mall with inside and patio dining. It's a smaller size restaurant, but at the time of going I had open seats available. The bathrooms were very clean and fresh smelling. I hate going to a restaurant and see a dirty bathroom, it makes me wonder how the kitchen is. This was not the case here.
Food: There is a lot to choose from, but I chose the daily special - Carnitas burrito with rice and beans. While waiting they gave me a basket of chips, salsa she been dip. Both the salsa and bean dip we delicious. I ate almost the whole basket.
When the burrito arrived, it came on a large plate and was a huge amount of food. The rice was cooked perfectly, the beans tasty. The burrito was a little drenched is sauce for my taste, or I didn't realize it came that was. But the ingredients are fresh and the burrito was good.
This place is peanut allergy safe. They don't use peanuts. Most other Mexican restaurants use peanut butter to thicken their enchilada sauce, not here, they do the traditional method with flour.
Service:
I had great service. My water was filled when getting low, they checked on me and we're very accommodating with my allergy.
The server was super friendly and willing to answer any questions with a smile.
Overall, I had a great experience and I'm glad I changed my mind. I will definitely be...
Read moreWe were not greeted when we walked in. When the server I assume the manager asked how many she never said ok come follow me to your table just turned around and threw the menus on the table. We were unsure if she wanted us to follow her since she didn’t communicate whatsoever so when she noticed we weren’t at the table she waved us over.. so from the get go we felt unwelcomed. The restaurant was fairly busy somehow so I think she just wanted to go home.. anyways the food was very mediocre at best. The servers were pretty rude most of the time and ignored us and would keep walking off. What really got me was when my husband asked for a spicer salsa, so they brought out a new salsa and we could tell all they did was add a TON of Cholula to it. Like ma’am trust me I do know my spices and hot sauces and peppers. Plus they charged an extra $1.50 for an added shot of cholula. Insane…When I asked her very politely how they made their salsa hotter she played stupid and acted like she couldn’t speak English anymore. Not really would have been a big deal had they have just taken accountability and maybe we’re politer throughout the service. Jalapeño’s...
