Nahm Thai & Burmese Cuisine ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
On 6/15/22, JP and I went to check out one of Boise’s newest and most highly rated restaurants. JP got there early and met RC, who we invited to join our table. We eat family style, sharing a salad, three entrées and two desserts. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. We had a wonderful evening. We will definitely be back.
Tea Leaf Salad ($13.95) - House fermented Sencha tea leaf, Romaine, spring mix, tomato, cucumber, fried garlic, fried shallot, nuts and seeds, fresh squeezed lemon juice. None of us had ever had a tea leaf salad before. We loved it. This salad not only is beautiful to look at, it has a lot going on flavor wise. The fried garlic and shallots, along with nuts and seeds, give it some nice crunch.
Hung Lay ($17.95) - Rich and sweet curry with pork belly, ginger, pickled garlic, pearl onion, tamarind, served with cucumber relish. We ordered this dish with sticky rice. While we all liked each of the entrées, RC and I thought this one stood out above the other two. Pork belly isn’t my favorite, but I’m beginning to think I just haven’t had a great pork belly before. Hands-down, this is the best pork belly dish I’ve ever had. I don’t like sweet entrées. Personally, I did not consider this curry to be sweet. I would simply say it’s more complex than spicy, in terms of heat level.
Green Curry with Beef ($18.95) - Green curry paste in rich and creamy coconut milk, braised beef shank, Kaffir lime leaves, green beans, bamboo shoots and basil. Comes with rice. Paratha and cucumber relish. We ordered this dish with coconut rice. This was JP’s favorite entree. I enjoyed it but Green Chicken Curry is my go to dish the first time I check out a Thai restaurant, so eating it made with beef is a different experience. I would not hesitate to order again, but next time I would ask if it could be made a little spicier. Usually when I get green curry, I ask for it to be made with the same spice level as it would in Bangkok.
Yellow Curry with Fried Chicken ($18.95) - Thai Hat-yai style fried chicken with yellow coconut curry, onion, tomato and potatoes. Served with roti, rice and cucumber relish. We ordered this dish with sticky rice. We all enjoyed this dish, and it was one of my favorites. Hat-Yai fried chicken is a popular street food in Thailand. It’s typically served with sticky rice. This entrée comes with a serving of yellow curry to go with it. JP and RC Both felt they would prefer the dish if the chicken came in the curry, but I loved it just as it was. I really like the fried chicken, some of which I dipped in the curry before eating. But I liked the fried chicken skin just as it was. Next time though, I would ask if they could boost the spice level in the curry.
Chocolate Banana Roti ($8) - Thai roti with banana, chocolate sauce and condensed milk. We all enjoyed this desert
Mango Sticky Rice ($8.95) - With coconut milk cream. This dessert was our favorite.

Read moreIf you haven't tried Nahm, you're missing out on some of the tastiest food in the valley (or state). From the inviting atmosphere to the gracious service, this family-owned restaurant goes above and beyond on every aspect of dining. The food has excellent texture, appropriate variety, and never changes from its exceptional quality. If you enjoy spicy food, fried chicken, rice, soup, or noodles, you will enjoy Nahm (their menu is much more extensive than just those items). Their samosas are always perfectly crisp, mouthwatering delicious. The Tom Kah Soup is my favorite soup ever; the perfect balance of acid and creamy coconut, elements of ginger, lemongrass and Thai chilli tie it together for an experience in every bite. Their Pad Thai Gai is the best pad thai I've ever had, and well portioned. The Thai Ice Tea is amazing, flavorful with a mellow aftertase. The hot ginger tea is exceptionally refreshing, not too 'spicy' from the ginger. I could write a book on why this place is so exceptional, but you should just try it for yourself! The seating is limited/smaller (esp on weekends, they stay busy) but ordering To-Go is actually the same quality as in person (I'm a packaging-princess and I've always received my items warm, well wrapped, and properly portioned, literally no complaints, they never forget extra items on the side or drinks) Thank you for providing exceptional food and quality in boise! Never going back to...
Read moreEgg Rolls: Very oily, and it tasted like rancid oil. It was not pleasant. The inside was filled with noodles. No pork, shrimp and had sparse vegetables at best.
Pad Thai: under-seasoned. No acid. Not even lime was given. The noodles were very thin & over cooked mushy - not your typical pad Thai rice noodle.
Fried Chicken & Curry: Most disturbing & disappointing. It came with chicken leg & thighs- dark meat. It was dry, tough, stringy and chewy. How is that even possible for dark meat?!!! It clearly was OLD LEFTOVERS. I wish it was just burnt, but sadly it is NOT. The bread it came in was so soggy with oil that it felt like Vaseline all over my lips and tongue. Again, rancid oil. The curry was okay, except that it had a film of congealed fat on top. Again, unappetizing. Not even the courtesy of reheating it. Again, the whole thing screamed old leftovers given to customers.
Sticky mango Rice: brown, dry, old mangoes. The white sticky rice is dry and is tough/chewy…. Again, old. Poor quality.
Overall: Spent $77. Poor quality, disappointing & disgusting food. No pride in their food. Most troubling is that there is real food safety issues - old poor quality food being served to customers.
I’m glad that this restaurant is in the area. Really had high hopes. Maybe they just had a bad day/chef. With that said, there is some food quality and safety concerns.
