Sand is not good for small dogs or in the heat of summer. This park is within walking distance for me but I don't go there because of the sand. Every time i have taken my dog she gets sand in her ears and eyes which leads to infections. She won't play with her frisbee because she gets a mouth full of sand. In the summer it is too hot for paws and the dog park part is always empty because of this. I see more people playing with their dogs in the grassy area and ignoring the fenced "sandbox". I won't even mention it is not handicap accessible. Why couldn't the dog park be turned to grass? There is an irrigation ditch that runs there to use as water. This whole make over seems like a...
Read moreAccolades to Boise for rebuilding the park and including a fenced in area for large and small dogs......however they failed inside the "off-leash" areas by using sand as the natural surface for dogs to play on. My labradoodle is like a magnet for sand, even after brushing his feet off after leaving the park, he still got sand all over the inside of my vehicle. I can understand the city's interest in a low maintenance ground cover, but sand is not it. I do not plan to visit this dog park again unless the city can provide a better ground cover. It is unfortunate since I live close to the park and it would be...
Read moreI'm not a local but we stopped here with our two dogs during a long road trip back to Washington. It was easy to find (townhouse development) and both parks were pretty massive. Both the large and the small dog park are covered in sand, so coming here on a really sunny, warm day would probably be a bad idea. There is also no shade. Doggy bags are provided but there weren't any garbage cans inside the fenced in area (and, surprisingly, not a bunch of poop people refused to pick up). They had already closed the bathrooms and water fountains for the season so it sucked that we weren't able to...
