It's a large outdoor concert venue with the option to sit under a dome where the stage is (with seating) or stand farther back on a grass hill. We had seats under the dome. When we first pulled in we drove to the back to park on a gravel/grass hill. We got there late and there weren't any parking spaces left in the lots. They had special parking for 5th wheels (that was cool) but we were in a car. Not bad though, we found an ok space. Next, getting in line... The line was long and slow. Turns out it was that long because there were security guards measuring and rummaging through ladies purses. The woman in front of us had a regular sized purse and was being told it was too large to be allowed in. My friend's purse was also too large. It wasn't a big purse and there were no signs enforcing this rule, so we were not happy that we weren't told about it earlier, we could have left our stuff in the car, but now that means either leaving all our things with this stranger, or walking back to the car (15 minute walk) and loosing our place in line. The security woman was a very unpleasant woman to everyone I saw her interact with. Security woman, if you're reading this, please find a job that doesn't involve working with people. When Shinedown came on everyone was amped. The music was a little echoed under the dome. It just sounded off, but it was still fun and we enjoyed ourselves. During intermission between Godsmack and Shinedown we took a bathroom break. The have flushies and not port-o-johns which was awesome, but everything in the stall was wet. I'm going to keep telling myself that they were hosed down prior to us entering. I leaned against a stall wall when I was trying to leave (it's pretty cramped in there guys) and the entire wall was wet. I'd like to think it's water and not vomit or urine. Leaving took about 45 minutes because there were just so many people. Everyone was cool though. It was like a big after party almost. I'd go...
Read morePine Knob has been a concert staple in metro Detroit for as far back as I can remember. You can choose less expensive lawn seats or pavilion seats. Pavilion seats are a safe bet for all weather, though know that if it's cold outside, the wind sails through the pavilion so bundle up and/or bring a blanket. If you have lawn seats, prepare for the worst so when the best happens, you can rejoice. We recently attended a concert during which there were sprinkles, then rain, and ultimately a thunderstorm with a downpour. It was unseasonably cool for June--only in the mid-50s--and the people on the lawn were soaked and joked that they survived hypothermia to see the band. You can rent a small lawn chair for $10, which would keep you off the wet ground. Sadly, the view from the lawn isn't so great, and the screens don't give you a much better view. They're up by the stage, aren't very large, and whoever is filming might not do a good job like at our concert where 90% of the time you could only see the keyboard player on one side of the stage and the guitar player on the other, with an occasional view of the singer, which is who most people focus on. Drinks are ridiculously expensive, with two beers coming in at $36 with a small tip, and one simple mixed drink $19 without tip. Water is $5. Parking is free, so that's at least a bonus! No bags or purses are allowed--just something the size of a wristlet--so don't bring anything you don't want to lose. I kept wondering if people still rip out the lawn at some shows like they did in the old days when we'd see chunks of lawn flying past our heads--sometimes lit on fire. I hope not. Part of Pine Knob's charm is the experience of being at an outdoor concert venue, and though this review sounds somewhat negative, I'll continue attending concerts here. As long as I can get a pavilion seat and no flaming chunks of sod are thrown in my...
Read moreDo not bring any purses whatsoever they are not allowed. Small wallets of this size 6 by 4 by 1 inches may be brought in and will be searched. The only exception for larger bags are those containing medical necessities and the bag cannot be over 14 inches, the bag will be searched and x-rayed. I work security for this venue and know that this is true regardless of anything else you may hear please check the website if you have any questions. Lawn chairs are not allowed only beach chairs that do not arise higher than 12 inches are allowed. Chairs are for rent at the venue for $10 . Coolers, outside food and drink are no longer allowed in the venue be prepared for some high prices. Most facility venues including Pine Knob are now cashless you must use a credit or debit card to purchase items within the venue. There are reverse ATM machines available that you can feed cash for a prepaid credit card. Some events are designated as non-photo events meaning that taking pictures or video during the event is prohibited this is at the discretion of the performing Act. Aside from these few rules it is a great place to see any band. It is set in a wooded surrounding with lawn seating available on a hill facing the stage. There are jumbo monitors that also face the hill. Shows normally take place rain or shine with the exception of lightning strikes in which case a concert Maybe delayed or canceled due to safety concerns. These may seem like a lot of rules but I'm adding them because I want you to have a good time and enjoy this venue. Little Caesars and their Partners have done a wonderful job in renovating the venue and it really is a beautiful place to spend a spring or summer afternoon. I give...
