This store is so nostalgic to me of markets I would go to in the early 60's. They have every soda in old fashioned glass bottles. They had a huge candy counter, self serve and loads of flavors of taffy. Strawberry cheesecake, key lime, raspberry lemonade, vanilla cupcake with sprinkles, and chocolate chip cookies. Homemade potato chips, several variety s of tomatoes and fresh produce, huge bing cherries. I had their beef chili and a huge dill pickle. They have one of the biggest salad bars I have ever saw. And at least five varieties of soup. Nickle candy sold by the pound. I got at least 20 pieces of taffy for well under $2 as its sold by the pound. I use to pay to get into the state fair to purchase a pound of peppermint taffy and they have it for $5.99 a pound. The homemade chili, fresh produce, are what they advertise for but its soooo much more. Must visit if you love nostalgia and the 60's. Made me think of big red hot dogs, on the grill split with mustard and pickles on a bun. Walking to a deli counter and ordering honey loaf on white bread and watching the butcher slice it thick slices, and $.05 and...
Read moreI come here all the time with my husband. We love picking up new spices, new sauces and I absolutely love the enchilada soup and finding candy we can’t get just anywhere. But I had a poor experience compared to most of the time. I’m still giving 4 stars just based off of past experiences but this lady that was working the salad bar was very rude to me. I was standing with my husband while he ordered a salad and she kept telling me she can only serve one at a time. I get that. I never asked her to serve me I went with him so I could look at the pickles and other items but wanted to stand next to him. Her attitude and the way she spoke to me was so rude and uncalled for. It really rubbed me wrong. Not going to lie, I even wanted to cry she was so rude. I’ve never experienced anything like that. Maybe it was a misunderstanding but I kept explaining I wasn’t getting anything just looking and standing with my husband. Overall, love it here and usually are treated great by the people up front but sometimes the salad bar servers are not...
Read moreThe Famous Tomatos is a place where you can find nostalgic candy, an impressive assortment of hot sauces, from Blair's to brands you have never even heard of, i can almost promise you, you will find a new favorite from their selection. More impressive is the sodas, they carry s good selection of for nostalgia, but also many smaller micro brew products.
If that wasn't enough, they have the best seasonal menu of goods, probably the best caramel apples I've ever had and a sald and chilly bar that more people seem to like than what I've mentioned. It has been one of my favorite places to visit since I first learned of them in Avon Indiana. You only drawback is the small parking lot where they are now located on 10th St near Allison Transmission. You should stop in, where else can you buy morel mushrooms without knowing a guy or hunting for them your self, for those of us who don't know how, have the time or just cant take the demanding hikes through the woods to chance upon the.
A great...
