I have lived in Irwin all of my life and have many fond memories as a young man of going to The Lamp to see movies. When the theater closed and fell into disrepair, it was a sad passing of a local icon and when I heard a community group had renovated the theater I couldn't wait to take a look.
On Sunday, I went to The Lamp for the Billy Price show and was absolutely blown away by this beautiful performance venue. It looks like it seats about 350, so everybody has a fantastic view and is close to the action. The slope of the floor means that nobody is blocking your view from any location and the stage is very comfortable for the performing artists and yet still feels cozy and intimate, almost like a large nightclub feel.
Both the sound and lighting were well done and appropriate for the venue. I look forward to many, many more performances at The Lamp and can see how it will be a cultural center for the wonderful town of Irwin.
Now, you don't have to go all the way to Pittsburgh to see a fantastic show and wonderful artists, they are right in your neighborhood and in your backyard. Do yourself a favor and check...
Read moreThis is a wonderful experience. I was raised in NHT, graduated from Norwin High in 1963. I used to see movies in the old Lamp Theater. When I return from KY to visit family from this area I try to visit the Lamp. I saw "Footloose" and last evening "Rocky's Horror Picture Show". All the staff I met were outgoing, friendly, helpful, and smiled or spoke first. I left there feeling happy and very grateful that someone had the vision to keep the Lamp burning brightly. Thank you for another great night out. Command Sergeant Major, Frank Myers. U.S. Army retired.
P.S. I had 25 years active Army and 21 years teaching High School. It makes me happy to see young people succeed in their field of endeavor. The Lamp contributes greatly to that opportunity....
Read moreFirst time at the venue last night and I must say I had a good time. It’s a small one screened movie theater that was transformed into a music theater. It’s definitely an intimate setting. It’s like we were all family who booked this venue for a personal performance yet, I knew nobody. The volume wasn’t overbearing like you can get with some smaller venues. My brother and I sat in the mezzanine last row and still had a good view and again the sound level was really good. I will definitely go again as they have shows that are in my interest range and I definitely recommend, even if you think you don’t like the kind of music the band is playing! There is a brew bar right across the street if there’s no room in the...
