Context matters. I had just laid my father to rest the week prior and made the drive down to Jacksonville to spend some time with friends and take a much-needed break. As a bucket list itemâand with my friends soon relocating to TennesseeâI decided to book a fishing charter. I took a chance on Majesty Charters, and Iâm incredibly grateful that I did.
Fishing that day was tough. The bite was slow, and we only managed a few red snappers early on. The crew worked tirelessly, motoring from spot to spot, doing everything they could to put us on fish. What stood out most was how invested they were in our success. They werenât just going through the motionsâthey genuinely wanted us to catch something memorable.
Knowing nothing about saltwater fishing I made sure to follow the guidance of one of the crew members, Michael McGrady (forgive me if Iâve misspelled that). His advice paid off in a big way. By the end of the day, I landed a massive Greater Amberjack weighing between 50 and 60 poundsâthe biggest fish Iâve ever caught. If you want to catch fish listen and follow what they tell you!
Words fall short of describing what that moment meant to me. In many ways, it felt like a gift from heaven from my fatherâsomething he would have celebrated with me. It was more than a bucket list achievement; it was healing.
I canât thank Majesty Charters enough for their professionalism, perseverance, and genuine care. If youâre considering a fishing trip in the Jacksonville area, I highly recommend them. Listen to the crewâthey know what theyâre doing. And if youâre lucky, you might just leave with more than fish. You might leave with a memory that...
Read moreI have to be transparent here and say that our last trip was discouraging, lackluster, and gross, to say the leastâand it wasnât because of the bite.
My family and I have spent the past 15 years going on trips with the Majesty and the Princess(no longer associated) at least once annually, but usually a few times a year. Over the years, Iâve seen folks come and go from the crew but this yearâs crew was just⌠Different. Two of the mates were continually bickering over who would drop anchor, we had very little hands on attention from anyone other than Mike, who was clearly stretched thin. Mike, Iâm so sorry to put you in my less-than-positive review, but if itâs any consolation, you were the biggest positive of the whole day. You always work hard man and we appreciate you.
I went into the cabin on our way out to sea and laid down on an empty bench seat. I immediately sat up, gagging, because it smelled like VOMIT! Then I started taking note of the state of the cabinâextremely dirty, and crawling in German cockroaches!! I tried a couple more times throughout the trip to enjoy the cool air in the cabin but the smell and the roaches would not leave me alone!
Then I looked over and one of the mates was vaping inside the cabin. I know for a fact capt would flip his lid if he had seen it, because heâs made announcements to the entire boat that vaping is not allowed in the bathrooms or cabin.
The loss of quality in these trips is evidence that some of the newer crew mates have no respect for your ship or your business. Iâm sorely...
Read moreWhen it comes to quality, awesome, family fishing in Northeast Florida and the Jacksonville/St. Johns area, Majesty Deep Sea Fishing is easily the best.
I have personally been deep sea fishing dozens of times. I have enjoyed both smaller charters and larger group boats like the Majesty, all over the gulf and east coast. I can easily say that this boat, captain, and crew are among the best of my experiences.
First, the captain clearly knows what he is doing. We often bring in a quality amount and variety of fish. This is miles offshore, anchored above a small part of a giant ocean, just killing it. Certainly not something that I or most folks could accomplish. It's just a skill, and I trust the experts.
Second of all the crew is wonderful. They are clearly pros. The whole boat is professional, kind, and fun. Everyone is especially great with children. I have brought my 10-year-old son and 8-year-old daughter along, and we all had a blast. The crew helps with everything. I tell my kids that the fun is guaranteed, but the fish are not, yet we seem to keep pulling up both. There is simply nothing better for the confidence of the young ones than reeling in that keeper!
Finally, the overall experience, venue, and price are tops. The boat is comfortable, well-kept, and impressive. Bathrooms are multiple, clean, and easy to use. My advice is to roll with patience, snacks, and (well-deserved) cash for tips, and nobody will be...
