I was initially excited to loan my large collection of LIVE exotic animals to The Insect Asylum, as I believed it would benefit both parties—my animals would be showcased and appreciated, and the museum would draw more visitors due to the unique collection of invertebrates and arachnids. However, my trust was completely misplaced. Instead of properly caring for the animals as promised, the staff that was specifically assigned to caring for my animals were unreliable and failed exponentially, resulting in tragic consequences. The animals were not only mistreated (lack of food & water) but also passed away due to this neglect. Dried up Isopods and millipedes. The unsympathetic owner demonstrated a lack of professionalism and disorganization, which led to serious issues for myself and my animals. Another red flag issue is the absence of any type of security system on the 2nd floor, which makes it quite easy to steal the exposed animals. And that is exactly what happened to several of my high-end isopods and other more expensive invertebrates that mysteriously disappeared. Staff that had been fired still had keys and access to the museum after hours resulting in the theft of the animals I did not take back in time. As I reflect on my experiences with Nina and The Insect Asylum, I am left with a profound sense of sadness and betrayal. What I hoped would be a sanctuary for my cherished pets turned out to be a source of deep pain and regret. The tragedy of this situation will stay with me for years to come, as I grapple with the loss of my beloved pets and the unsettling feeling that their remains were used without my consent. My only hope is that others can learn from my experience and be more vigilant in protecting the dignity and well-being of all living beings and beware of those who wear two...
Read moreWhat are you waiting for? This place is AMAZING and you need to visit it to truly appreciate it. Home to a collection of taxidermy animals/bugs and natural knick-knacks, The Insect Asylum is every aspiring entomologist's dream. Despite being surrounded by mounts and taxidermy beings, there is something so meditative and calming about the space. I also love how the museum is sensory friendly, with ample opportunity for guests to actually touch most, if not all, of what is on display. The second floor holds a bunch of live reptiles, so it was cool to also get to see some snakes and lizards.
I had the fun experience of participating in the museum's butterfly pinning class which was fantastic. I'd never done any sort of pinning before, and our instructor, who was the founder of the museum, did an amazing job guiding us throughout the process and teaching us about preserving bugs. I highly recommend (if you're not squeamish of bugs) to take the pinning class; it's such a niche and unique experience.
You could purchase tickets the same day, but if you want to reserved tickets for specific classes then you should go on their website. Museum entry is included when purchasing class tickets. If you do not want to visit the museum, you could also just visit their shop which has a lot of cool bug...
Read moreI usually won't write reviews, but this warrants one. I was so excited to visit this museum with my girlfriend because we first went when the business was about to open and we never got the chance to come back to see it in its full potential. The museum was great in the beginning, but once we went upstairs to look at the live insects, that is when it took a turn. We met a woman who was housing her pets there and she was planning on taking them back. However, when she looked for her millipedes, she couldn't find them in their cage. The cage they were in was not looked after and the insects were neglected. They ended drying up because of the lack of moisture the museum provided. They were so dry that they were literally broken a part in the soil. This was very eye-opening to me because this whole museum's basis is about insects AND the insects they have alive, they neglected. All I could imagine when seeing this was how I would feel if my pet experienced the same thing. Just to say, I will not be visiting this museum ever again because of the...
