The park in back is quite small, mostly consisting of a playground, adult exercise structure and small pool, fronted by the larger historic park building. Inside there is an auditorium that has been converted into a gymnastics facility, an indoor basketball gym, and a few activity rooms upstairs.
The building is old, but far from run down. It could do with some renovations, especially the restroom facilities, but considering the low cost and high quality of the classes offered by the Chicago Park District, it's a real bonus to have such facilities nearby. Kids don't care as long as they enjoy themselves, and most kids do here, including my own. To think what could have been if 80% of the park land hadn't been exappropriated to build the expressway in the late 50s...
Parking can be a challenge as Street parking is by local permit only, and the lot in back is for park staff only. This means you have to find one of the few paid spots out front, which can be difficult on weekends...
