Windy City Produce Inc — Attraction in Jefferson Township

We have been going here for over 30 years and I always appreciate the quality and variety of their produce and the way they respond to the needs of the neighborhood over time. They've had such wonderful staff over the years and I know neighbors really appreciate them!

Their butcher counter now offers great service and their prepared foods are such a convenient option, from hot meals to cold cuts and salads and fresh made salsas.

I remember long before the most recent upgrade when there were barrels of pickles and sauerkraut out. Now we look forward to getting tamales before they sell out for the day. The carnitas are always delicious too, I would rather buy them prepared there than try to make them myself.

I like discovering new things in the pantry section, they fit a lot in a few aisles! For example, we had searched across several grocery stores for the Tadin tea that helps an older friend with respiratory problems more than anything else.

I was a little concerned when I didn't see it on the shelf in the usual space the last time I came through, but then I turned around and I had a whole end cap with a wide variety of herbal teas from that brand and others. Looking forward to...

Today I visited them and felt that I was not welcomed. I hadn’t shopped here since I once purchased rice and it had a worm how ever today I felt that I wanted to give them a try everything was ok up until it came time to pay the cashier at first seemed to not want to help me even though I was next in the line she kept looking at another customer in another line as to say come over. Then I put my basket to begin unloading and in English with slight attitude asked me to unload my stuff which I was going to do. Then while helping me continued to look at the other customer and I assume and I’m hoping it’s because they were friends and not because she thought that I was non Latino. Because she did the same thing to another customer right behind me. Who was not Latino. I however am Mexican but a little darker very disappointed hope management speaks with their cashier because I truly did not feel welcome. The market itself is wonderful. My problem is with the employees. There was a bad scene where 3 of them proved to be really out of touch.

They tried to make one line for all three registers. We were standing in a long line for more than 15 minutes which we didn't mind at first. But when we got close we saw that the people were improvising new lines to the register and not waiting at all. The way I discovered this is I tried to walk over when it was finally my turn and some one ran up in front of me. I said I'm sorry I'm next in line.

The strange thing was - It didn't take 2 seconds before all three cashiers yelled it's not your line. Another customer in my line (which truly was intended to be the only line) was also surprised and spoke out as well. It seemed like they were more eager to be on the defensive than creating a good shopping/work environment. I think they have an overall bad theory about customer service
