Crawford W. Long Museum — Attraction in Jefferson

Have been wanting to visit the Crawford Long Museum for many years and finally got off the interstate today and checked it out.

Its much more than a museum about Doctor Crawford Long. There’s a good bit of history about the small town of Jefferson and the local area, a fascinating collection of medical instruments and equipment, and a room full of of anesthesia paraphernalia. There’s a smattering of period furniture and medical journals. The interpretation everywhere is excellent.

Such a great value for the few dollars of admission. There is absolutely a treasure trove of educational information packed into this small space. We spent 2 hours looking, reading, comparing artifacts and instruments of dentistry as well as foods displayed in the general store...and I still didnt read it all! Electronic audio tour guides are available at the admission desk and will explain the various exhibits if you aren't the type that likes to read. Very unique and historically significant museum! The things you learn visiting small town America - loved Jefferson, Georgia and Crawford W. Long Museum. I would highly recommend visitors pay the small admission fee to learn alot about the early history of anesthesia in America - here is where Dr. Long...
