Evangelismos Greek Orthodox — Attraction in Jersey City

I’m only 17, and I’ve been coming to Evangelismos for just over a month, all by myself. From the moment I stepped inside, I was overwhelmed by a deep, calming peace, like I was finally somewhere truly touched by God’s presence.

Before attending, I knew some of the history and teachings of Orthodox Christianity, but actually being at the church moved me in a way I didn’t expect. It genuinely made me want to cry tears of peace and happiness.

This is my first time ever walking into an Orthodox Church, and honestly, I didn’t know what to expect. But what I found was so much more than I imagined. The iconography inside is some of the most beautiful I’ve ever seen. Each image tells a story that draws you closer to God in a way words can’t.

Even coming alone, I never once felt out of place. I feel truly seen, loved, and accepted here, not just by the people, but in a way that feels like God is personally reaching out to me. Every service fills me with hope and comfort, and it’s a peace I’ve been searching for my whole life.

I also come to the Orthros service every Sunday, which has deepened my connection and understanding even more. Fr. Nick is amazing and very welcoming. His church feels like a home and he feels like a spiritual father to me.

Becoming a catechumen soon means everything to me because I finally feel like I’m stepping into something real, something holy, something that’s healing my soul.
