My father, Michael Madden, was a parishioner at St Aedan’s since 1954 when he arrived here from Ireland. He never missed a mass in that church until he became home bound at 94. Even then he routinely sent donations at Christmas and Easter, and had anniversary masses said for my mother since her death 14 years ago. She was buried from St Aedan’s. My brothers and I attended St Aedan’s school, and made ever sacrament there... I was even married in that beautiful church. For those of us fortunate enough to be apart of that parish it was home. We all came back for the Irish mass and met old friends and family. We attended friends’ weddings and sadly funerals. So I was utterly shocked by the treatment my dad received when he died in March by the pastor Fr. Hyatt. Arriving at McLaughlin’s earlier than the start of the visitation he was brisk and annoyed. I stood there expecting condolences but instead listen him belittle Maryellen McLaughlin. He never acknowledged me or my family, and worse never prayed over my father. Instead he walked out angry saying he wouldn’t say his funeral mass. Can you imagine that? A pastor refusing to say a funeral mass for a parishioner that had been apart of the church, a model catholic, for nearly 64 years!!! There have been a lot of changes at St Aedan’s over the years ...some good and some clearly not so good. Though your website is lovely you might want to take a look at your leadership. Fr. Hyatt is an utter disgrace. No amount of bells and whistles will hide that fact. For the record not all is lost... Fr Rocco is a saint! A true man of God and gives me hope that St. Aedan’s may find it’s way back to greatness when Fr. Hyatt...
Read moreI have been attending Saint Aedan's for many years, and I have always found it to be a warm and inviting place to go to mass. The church itself is beautiful, with gorgeous mosaics in the walls and ceiling. It is a very large structure with ample and comfortable seating. The music is always terrific and the choir is lively. Most recently, since the church has switched back to the Archdiocese, the new priests have been giving good and relevant sermons. The people are...
Read moreAs I mentioned in my previous review, this is a wonderful church to attend Mass. The parishioners are always very friendly and welcoming. The music is awesome. There is a very large parking lot behind the church, and it's very convenient to the Journal Square area. In the area where Saint Aedan's is located, the neighborhood is quite safe especially because it's the Saint Peter's University area. I wanted to add a few more photos in this...
