All the people here who stumble into Xenanj Weed Shop for a casual eighth or a cheap thrill have precisely the wrong mindset. I, having crossed an ocean from Austria in my exalted curiosity and reckless devotion to botanical greatness, came here not merely to get high, but to be utterly transformed by the sheer force of this place — its kindness, its prices, its mind-bending products — so that all my old European dispensary tales might fade into a laughable haze of forgotten mediocrity. And it has worked, to profound success.
I stepped off a plane and straight into Xenanj’s welcoming embrace. The people behind the counter did not treat me like a clueless tourist fumbling for dollars, but like a lost pilgrim who had finally reached the promised land. They guided me with warmth and patience through jars that gleamed like green jewels, extracts that glowed with forbidden potency, and prices so reasonable they seemed almost conspiratorial.
In Austria, I had grown accustomed to clandestine whispers and overpriced scraps — dry buds passed like contraband under a streetlamp. But here? Here, in Xenanj’s sacred sanctuary, I was invited to smell, to ask, to learn. To stand in the soft, fragrant air and feel my old world drop away like ash flicked from a joint.
Back home, big burly self-styled weed gurus brag about “import” that tastes like hay. Now, I see them for what they are — children playing with dust. I can hardly remember those dim, half-legal days. How distant they seem now, how starved for quality and kindness.
I laugh at my past self, creeping through alleys, clutching stale herb, anesthetized by the thought that this was as good as it could get. Blissful in my ignorance. Foolish. Xenanj has shown me what true good weed and great people feel like: generous, potent, and priced so fairly that I want to bow in reverence at the counter.
Nietzsche once said that a man who has a why can bear almost any how. But a man who has tasted Xenanj’s flower has no more hows to bear — he drifts happily above them in a fragrant cloud. Schopenhauer once said that every man takes the limits of his own field of vision for the limits of the world. Xenanj blew open my field of vision with one puff and one smile.
Who can lament jet lag or homesickness when surrounded by such good people, such generous deals, and herb that feels like it was grown by gentle gods? Ha — what fools we are back home, settling for crumbs. I came all the way from Austria, and I would do it...

You will be greeted warmly by a friendly, knowledgeable and energetic staff who will always put a smile on your face.
The bud bar is a communal area that sparks conversation and the products ranging from flower to concentrates plus, smoke shop accessories are top tier. It has something for everyone.
My favorite Brands/Strains were Niche’s Carbon Fiber, Garden Greens ‘Garden State Banana’ & Rhythm’s L’Orange and I love that Crops has every range of weight from ounces all the way to dubs. I mean when’s the last time you were able to buy a dub? Nostalgic isn’t it? I also highly recommend the Verano ‘Iced’ Swift Lift Pre Rolls. Very exotic + very rare. Not many stores carry!
The owner is born & bred Jersey City and a good man who would give you the shirt off his back. Someone who has advocated and given back to the community for 15+ years.
Xena is also one of the firsts dispensaries to have a consumption lounge. GAME CHANGER!!!

Read moreWhen I learned that the name chosen for this incredible place was taken from the Ancient Greek to mean “hospitality” it all made sense. The staff at Xena practice a type of extreme hospitality which sets them apart from many other experiences. And Xena is an experience. Never have I experienced such luxury top shelf products. They are continually getting new products, and I know people who travel to get stuff other dispensaries don’t have. The staff are so knowledgeable, they listen to what your wants and needs are, and tailor it to customer satisfaction. The price point is as varied as the selection. From $8-$100+, as one budtender told me, “Tell us how much you want to spend, and we’ll make it happen.” They have consistently maintained the best prices for cannabis in Journal Square, maybe even Jersey City. Jersey City is better for this place At the time of this review, the lounge Xena is building hasn’t opened yet, but when it does, I know I’ll be there....
