The hotel was a mostly clean. There were some issues with what I would consider shoddy workmanship in the tiles in the bathroom and the room, but nothing that was dangerous. And it was a bit cheaper than the other hotels that were only a few minutes from the hospital we had an appointment at the next morning. However, its not worth going to this hotel. If you want a cheap place to sleep there are cheaper hotels just little further from the hospital (KU Medical Center). If you are willing to spend a bit extra for being close to the hotel, just pay the extra for the other two options that are there. The ONLY acceptable thing about the hotel was that the room was mostly clean. Let me tell you about the rest of the issues. So first, I will say that I booked with Travelocity. I did not call them directly to book. However, through Travelocity I had requested a handicap accessible room, because we had a morning appointment the next day at a nearby hospital and live a few hours away. I was traveling with my family, and my daughter who was with us is in a wheelchair, so I booked an accessible room for us. I get to check in and the lady gives me a key and tells me our room is on the 2nd floor. I ask about an elevator, and she says they don’t have one. So, I explain that I requested an accessible room, and she insists that I did not. So I explain that I am with my daughter and she is in a wheelchair, so ask if an accessible room is not available, can I at least get a room on the first floor, and I am again told that I cannot because there are no rooms on the first floor that are available, and she shows me something on her screen and says that if I had requested an accessible room it would have shown up here. I finally pull my phone out, pull up my confirmation e-mail, and show here where in the confirmation email, I specifically booked a room that was handicap accessible. Once I showed her that, and said I would need a refund immediately if they were unable to provide me with the type of room that I had requested, she suddenly had not only a first floor room, but a handicap accessible first floor room right behind me. She was just being lazy and not wanting to swap a room around until she absolutely had to and was confronted with proof that I had indeed booked a handicap room, and acted like she couldn’t have cared less about the issues it would cause us. Then when we got the room, the air filter for the heater was filthy, and not plugged in properly. After turning the heater on and getting a face full of dust we opened the window to let the room air out a bit. It did need to air out because there was some kind of scented spray that was quite overpowering in the room, and I discovered that the window wasn’t latched shut. Had I not checked it would have been unsecured the entire night. The bathroom in the room was okay, except there was only one light that was above the toilet, and in the shower it was kind of dark and difficult to see well when I was showering. The breakfast was essentially absent. It advertised for 6-9. I went over at 7 to get something and there were two pieces of sausages, some gold biscuits, crusty gravy, and a broken waffle machine. I went back around 8 to see if anything was restocked and the condition was exactly the same, so whoever put it out there put whatever they had and it was never restocked, so if you do stay here plan on getting breakfast first thing because it is apparently first come first served and at no point in the morning was...
Read moreThe night. The clerk was sitting off in a room, and with the door closed, i had to yell for help to even be acknowledged and signed in. I had reserved the room through Priceline. I asked for a handicap room, and a picture will tell you what type of room I got. I have been designated a fall risk, 70 years old. The room, in general, seems nice. However, one of the pillows was stained with something I don't know what. Picture attached. There were ant s in the bathroom, I do not know if I can get them in a picture today or not. If I do get them, it will be attached. So I have no idea what other types of bugs may be in here that I have not seen. I had reserved the rooms so I could go to a hospital appointment at the local Med Center. After I got back from my surgery, I got into the room, and it has not been cleaned. There are no new towels. I had used all the towels that they had there some for the double shower I needed before the surgery one at night one first thing in the morning. And, no matter where I put the shower curtain, some water flew over it or got under it or did something because there was a puddle of water on the floor after taking a shower. When I called the front desk for cleaning, I was told that housekeeping had already left, and if I needed towels, I could come down to the front desk to get them. Needless to, this got me somewhat upset. Having just had surgery and being made to walk down there and being a fall risk on top of that. The towels that I was given were incomplete. Two bath towels, one face towel, and no wash clothes. This morning, Friday I got to the breakfast bar. They had a steam tray out with nothing in it. The gravy for the biscuits look like it had been left in the same pot overnight, probably in the refrigerator. But you could see that there was stuff that was cooked on. By the way just so you don't think it was today's, I got there about 6:20 and there was no one there ahead of me. Or if there was they ate off of fast and got out because they did not open for breakfast till 6:00. When I want to throw my trash away, I found out that neither garbage can work by the foot pedal, and one of them look like it had not been cleaned around the lid at all as it had stuff on it as you can see in one of the pictures. Due to all the reviews on here about getting scammed out of $100 I decided to get something from the manager up front saying I did not owe anything. The manager does not come in until 10:00. I really wanted to be out of here by 9:00. As it is I am writing this at 8:24 with basically everything already out in the car except my phone and a book. Before I forget, the chair that goes to the desk. A fairly nice office chair, however it raises when you are not Seated on it. And as such it goes up and what is itself firmly underneath the desk. As having had surgery and not supposed to be lifting more than 10 lb, and could not pull a chair out using a lot more than 10 lb p u l l, I called on to the office to have them come up and pull the chair out because I wanted to make sure I didn't damage anything. She wedged it back and forth and was able to get it out, but then she turned at me and gave me a dirty look, like I should have been able to do it. Before I stay here again, I will pay the hundred some dollars to rent a motel that is close by. All I can rate the service at is one. If I could rate it all the way, it would...
Read moreWe were a little (ok, a lot) worried after reading some of the reviews, but our stay was apparently nothing like what some of the other guests have experienced.
Cleanliness - nearly perfect, sheets, towels, shower, bathroom counter were all done well, carpeted floor was clean. The only thing that looked like it might have been overlooked was sweeping under the bathroom counter. Sleep quality - actually, one of the best I've had in a hotel. The street it was on wasn't a major road, and unlike some fancy downtown hotels we've stayed at, it never turned into a drag strip or anything like that. The curtains fit into a frame along the window, so the room got really dark at night, which really helped me sleep. Heater worked well, and mattress was decently comfortable. Location - quite good for the price. At 1/3 the price of the hotels near the convention center (where we had an event to attend), we were able to drive or bus in 10-15 minutes. The neighborhood was quiet enough, and although it wasn't pretty and picturesque (right by an industrial area), my daughter and I felt safe. Extra amenities - wi-fi worked well. Fitness center was decent for the hotel price; we've been at more expensive hotels with a smaller fitness area (4 cardio machines and 7-10 weight machine options, depending on if you count different grips as a different option). Breakfast was definitely not the best I've had at hotels, very limited options (yogurt, bread for toast, juice, a few types of cereal, sausage patties, and a Belgian waffle maker), and it started late both days we were there, but it was free, and oftentimes even more expensive hotels don't offer anything. Property - Lobby areas were clean and well-lit. The hotel was showing signs of wear in some areas, like a ceiling that needed patching in our room, or areas that needed a fresh coat of paint. Breakfast area was roomy enough and kept clean, and there was a coffee bar that, while it had limited options, was kept stocked. Staff - we had limited staff interaction, but the staff we did interact with were courteous and straightforward.
Bottom line, we'd consider staying here again. It's not the best hotel we've ever stayed at, but it's also not the worst, and considering the price we paid, we...
