UPDATE #2 - After doing some research I discovered this Hispanic coffee shop that is claiming to be Latinx owned, is actually owned and operated by FOUR WHITE MEN. They also have ZERO Hispanic employees. You’ll only find this information after some deep digging, as lying about their heritage is clearly something they aren’t proud of. Disgusting practice and so many real Hispanic owned shops in the area, please don’t support colonizers.
UPDATE - Really sad to have to update from 5 starts to 1 :( I wish I had never tried the food!!! Now that I have I sadly won’t be back and I understand why the barista gave me a bizarre look of pity when I ordered food on top of my usual latte. I had the two seasonal tamales and wow, some of the saddest Mexican food I’ve had. The “green chile pork” was one of the worst things I’ve had. I had one bite and it was dry, flavorless and mostly potato. I took another bite and I spit it out, I finally got some pork but it tasted rancid. About 45 minutes later I started to feel very ill, so I’m glad I didn’t swallow any more of it. I did try the cheesy corn tamale and while it’s very inauthentic it was fine. But I only had one bite because the sadness from spitting out the last one made me lose my appetite.
I really liked this place! The baristas were friendly and playing some really good music. I came on a menu change day and the new latte I tried was really good. Will definitely be back to...
Read moreThis is definitely a hidden gem here in KC! It may be small, but the atmosphere is very homely and the service is top notch! Went there for the first time to meet a friend yesterday, and as I was scanning the menu, I saw they had horchata. I'd never had it before, and was pleasantly surprised that it was made with rice milk so someone whose lactose intolerant like myself could enjoy. I got the dirty horchata, and OMG! It was amazing! Had to pace myself so I wouldn't drink it all before I got to the food. Haha. Now let's get to the tamales! Who doesn't like tamales??? My friend actually suggested the place and I was a little concerned that they may not be as accommodating to someone on a vegetarian diet, but to my surprise they not only had vegetarian options, but vegan as well! Unfortunately they were out of the cheese and veggie tamales (which was completely fine since I shouldn't really have cheese), so I ordered the vegan tamales with lintels. Let me tell you, YUM! Sometimes vegan foods are a hit and miss, but not this one! The spices were on point and even a meat eater would still enjoy it. Along with all the yummy food, they also sell pottery pieces, which I believe are supplied from a local artist (correct me if I'm wrong). All pieces are beautiful and fairly priced. I will definitely be coming back! Thank you for...
Read moreThis place is straight out of a european/central/south American fairy tale. Free flan with drink purchase yesterday, free pastry with drink purchase today! The art featured here is beautiful, from the local artists pottery, to the jewelry, hand blown glassware, it's all unique, authentic, and posesses a genuine quality you wont find in products sold at chain coffee shops. There's outdoor seating, it's right off the highway, parking on the street. Ice cold watermelon juice is heavenly on a hot summer day, and the menu is simple and delicious. Me and my girlfriend were able to eat well, drink well, and even enduldge in desert and spent just 10 dollars, which makes tipping even easier, as the friendly folks working there always deserve it. It's places like this that remind me how important it is to support local businesses as much as possible. They are the true backbone of our community and without them we will fall even deeper into the isolationist fear culture that keeps people glued to their phones and locked inside their apartments, afraid to experience life outside their screens. Go here every day!...
