ART INSTALLATION:
THE PERSONAL TOUCH, AND WHY IT MATTERS
We bought a wind sculpture from Leopold Gallery. We knew the gallery and were long-standing customers; we had known the owner for decades--since before he started the gallery. But unlike Leopold's many commercial customers, we had never purchased anything that needed to be installed. The wind sculpture is lovely, whether the wind is blowing or not. But this review is about the installation.
Paul Dorrell is the gallery owner. I was not surprised when it was Paul who showed up to do the installation by himself, but I was pleased.
The size of the sculpture required the digging of a large hole, the placement of the shaft that holds up the sculpture, fixing the shaft so it was perfectly vertical, mixing cement and pouring it around the shaft, waiting several hours for the cement to set, and then attaching and testing what I will call the "blades" of the sculpture.
Paul's gallery is in Kansas City, Missouri; we live in Lawrence, Kansas--an hour away. Paul made the trip to Lawrence, accomplished all of the tasks up to pouring the cement, then made good use of the time needed for the cement to cure to visit a friend in town! He came back a few hours later to complete the installation. When he was finished it was perfect.
Because we know Paul, and because he is a fine conversationalist, I was able to catch up with him and the gallery when he was doing the installation. All of that--observing how he did the work as well as the conversation--was great fun.
We now have a wind sculpture in our front yard. Thanks to Paul, it is not only beautiful but is also beautifully--and personally--installed. And our relationship with Leopold gallery is even stronger...
Read moreI bought a 6’ Mirinda II in stainless steel for my mother, knowing she had wanted a wind sculpture for years. I purchased the sculpture over the web, jus as one does with all sorts of purchases these days. I was pleasantly surprised however at the incredible relationship building the Leopold Gallery does. After my purchase I received a personalized purchase update. And I continued to receive personalized notices throughout the entire stage of my purchase, including a final thank you note once the sculpture had been delivered. The personal notes, vs your typical form letters, was so surprising and thoughtful. Incredible customer service!
Beyond that, I love the sculpture. I didn’t think I would care as much, since I bought it as a gift, but every time I see it, I smile. Plus, super easy to assemble. Thank you Leopold Gallery, keep up...
Read moreI had an exceptionally good experience with Leopold Gallery! I had honed in (on-line) to a painter and a few of her paintings available at the gallery. I entered and was met warmly by Hilary the Gallery Director. We went over the paintings and I selected one that was different from my original choice - seeing upfront and in person is crucial. It was a breeze to make the purchase. I wanted the painting to be varnished and within a week it was all ready with the COA, bill of sale, and all wrapped up. The owner was very dynamic and it was a pleasure to have met him. The Gallery itself has a good variety of artists represented. Highly Recommended! Good email and phone call communication/follow ups were...
