Absolutely cannot explain our horrific experience enough through these reviews. I was so excited to take my daughters to the toy store I grew up going to! We drove quite a ways to come pick out a couple gifts for my daughters birthday that day. The second I walked in the door, just as excited as my kids, I was profiled, due to my different appearance than who they prefer. The only way I could stay in the shop was if I ‘wore a medical grade mask’ (my mask is fabric like everyone else’s, just sparkles) I have worn the same style masks this entire ordeal. Never experienced anything like this. That was the moment I began recording. Everyone in the place was wearing fabric masks (although at least one of the clerks put on a medical grade under hers when we weren’t in sight like I said, I started recording everything, they do not have them on when they had me change, and they did not ask a single other customer to change theirs.) I would have gladly left, but my girls were SO excited, and we hadn’t even made it past the counter!! They ended up following us, insanely around the store. I was scared to touch anything smaller than my purse. When they noticed I was recording, they just kept doing even more to make it awkward. I didn’t even notice they charged me double, until I got to the car, and charged me more for other items, than marked. I was so upset. This was going to be a magical experience for us on my daughter’s birthday! I went back in, recording yet again, stating I didn’t even notice because we were so uncomfortable. If you are white and live in a close proximity, this place will be an absolute joy!!! This is such a neat place. No matter how busy they are, the staff are so helpful and friendly. This is my number one spot to get unique gifts for the fun people in my life. They do free gift wrap during the holidays too (not sure if other times as well?). The prices are a bit high on a few things, but overall it's mostly reasonable. To me it is worth paying a little more for a unique gift with excellent customer service. On a side note: I'm from a small town with nothing but small, family owned businesses. I've seen too many small businesses expect people to automatically go there just because it's a small business without understanding what competition is. Brookside Toy & Science is the premier local toy store in Kansas City. Their selection is broad and wonderfully curated. It is incredible how much they fit into the small store! Toys, board games, jigsaw puzzles, magic sets, science kits, dolls, STEM toys, LEGOs, nature field guides, outdoor games, baby and toddler toys, children's books, and on and on!

We love shopping for gifts at BT&S because we find many creative and fun surprises we would have never thought of on our own or browsing online. They are a unique and special local establishment, and an excellent place to shop for gifts for children of all ages.
