Brennecke's Beach — Attraction in Kauai

Before Covid, Brennecke's was my FAVORITE restaurant in Poipu. So when I finally returned to Kauai last week, I made three reservations to dine there. Brennecke's is so famous for their Macadamian Nut Crusted Mahi, that that is what their logo and T-shirts have on them, a Mahi mani. But even though Mahi is available, had some at the Tidepools, Brenneckes is serving "fresh catch" instead, the day I was there, that was swordfish. It was GROSS. Also, our coconut shrimp was horrible and expensive. My husband and I had cocktails and we both felt like there was no alcohol in the drinks. I was so, so disappointed. please accept this post as a warning. Last week I was at Brennecke's to go swimming. I was standing near the rock edge when a rogue wave hit and bounced me along the rocks for about 15 feet. I have been coming to this beach all my life, and Brennecke's is indeed a beautiful place, but it is notorious for rogue waves and gnarly surf, depending on the conditions. Even though I should have known better, I got caught. I would hate for any visitors to go through anything like this. If you're feeling any kind of doubt, don't go. There is a safer beach with lifeguards a few steps...

It was a good environment with really nice views! It would have make for a great place, but the food and service was not worth it. Our server was not personable and rather slow. It wasn't only the server that was not personable though too - the greeter, the support staff, etc. It really brought down the vibe having deflated people helping you in a bright, fun place. Also limited food options that is overpriced and not really the best quality. It was mediocre and overpriced. Fun environment but location is really all it has...
