J. Fred Johnson Stadium — Attraction in Kingsport

Went there for a ballgame and have several issues with that place. 1st all, and I mean ALL up close parking was "reserved" for season parking pass holders, so the visiting team had to park a ways from the stadium and walk to the gate. 2nd walked all the way to the gate just to be informed that I couldn't take my "over sized" chair inside. So I had to walk ALL the way back to my vehicle to put it up. Then, well you guess it, had to walk all the way back to the gate. 3rd we were then informed we couldn't take any bags in, including women's purses. Luckily my 73 year old mother didn't have hers or it would have been another trip to the vehicle. 4th we were told no drinks allowed through the gate. Which leads me to state that once I got to my seat, I saw several people with bags, drinks and even saw chairs like I have to leave in my vehicle. The Kingsport City Schools have always thrown a lot of money into their sports programs. The stadium was almost unrecognizable when I visited a few days ago compared to the last time I was there about 12 years ago. They have a "jumbotron", sky box (why does a high school need a sky box??), and several new buildings inside and along the periphery of the stadium. I just wonder if they make the same improvements and investments to their aging education buildings as they annex more and more of the Sullivan North and South school zones in an attempt to raise city tax revenues and decrease those student populations. Hopefully a Sullivan Metro School System will be created in the next few years to remedy this issue but until then the Model City will keep investing in athletics in an attempt to compete with larger cities like Knoxville at the expense of the growing...

This place smells of fun and excitement! (Along with the food!) The crowds are huge! Family fun awaits. Parking is everywhere around this beautiful, almost college looking stadium... in a gorgeous setting. The views inside n out are spectacular. As are the neighborhood folks who tolerate on game/event days n nights. Management pulls this all off perfectly n professionally. Traffic control and ones safety is assured by said management, along the cities law enforcement pros. Expect a safe time there.
