My second massage with Longevity was a terrible experience. I left that review at the Longevity Northshore location. They had me pay full price for that massage but did kindly offer me a free 90 min massage at Longevity Bearden which I really appreciated. However that also turned out to not be the best experience.
When I came in to get my free massage I immediately noticed there was very loud construction noise. The building was being reroofed. Clearly loud noise like that could absolutely ruin a relaxing massage experience.
Initially Travis, the owner, was incredibly rude to me when I asked if I could reschedule the massage because of the noise. If this review wasn’t already so long I would include more of that experience- but I think it will suffice to say that I was genuinely shocked by Travis’ aggression and anger towards me. I’m a sensitive person and I felt sort of cut in half by his tone.
In my opinion at the very least they should have let people know in advance that this was going on, apologize for the inconvenience, and offer to reschedule their massage. Thankfully the workers went to lunch or something during my massage and it wasn’t an issue. But the entire time I knew the loud banging might start again at any moment.
The massage with Ellie was supposed to be deep tissue but to me the whole thing just felt like gentle rubbing. I’ve had a number of deep tissue massages and it was not like any of those. I asked once if more pressure could be used but when I didn’t notice an increase I felt it was pointless to ask again. She never asked me during the massage if she was using a good amount of pressure.
At the beginning Ellie had asked if I had any problem areas that needed extra attention. I mentioned my lower back and hips. Throughout the 90 minute massage she never said anything about these areas or what she was doing to work on them. And I really couldn’t tell that she worked on those areas in particular much at all. Certainly nothing that helped.
After the massage the girl with blue hair gave me my welcome drink. I asked if it was possible to get ice in it. She said that the ice was too large to fit in the cup and used two hands to show me how huge the ice was. But she reluctantly gave me 1 cube and it was literally 1 inch by 1 inch and fit easily in the cup.
Also I did learn when I was checking out after my first massage that a 15-20% tip is customary. I didn’t remember reading that in advance but it could be nice to include that info upon booking.
Lastly, the emails that are sent out as appointment reminders (and a reminder of the cancellation policy) have a surprising number of typos and really could use a revision.
Anyways, I had really hoped to start booking massages with Longevity monthly but unfortunately each of my three massages here were disappointing. I’m honestly happy for all the others who give 5 stars and who really love their massages here but this was just not my experience.
Response to owner-
I didn’t write this review to tarnish a local business. I wrote it to share my experience at Longevity exactly as it was. I know I do have higher expectations than some- but I also felt my expectations were realistic for the price of the massages and for all the 5 star reviews that Longevity has. I’ve been more than happy with massages I’ve had in other locations in the past- including ones in Asia that cost a fraction of the price. My hope would be that you and your employees would take the feedback I gave and make the effort to improve rather than just seeing my words as an attack. Every word I wrote was the truth and I didn’t write with any malice in my heart. Also, since you referenced my 33 reviews- I will just say that many of those are positive. And those are much for fun for...
Read moreThis place is legit!!! I’ve had a few massages in my life, but this place made the others seem like those hydra massage machines in the mall. I swear. I didn’t deserve to walk through the door. I got a robe, ya’ll! A nice one! There wasn’t just water in the waiting room... not just lemon water in the waiting room... oh,no... chocolate covered nut bark stuff and some sort of lemon cookies. I didn’t even have a chance to try the third thing before being whisked away to my warm massage table. Needless to say, everything in there went quiet swell. My only suggestion is to offer and let me pay for an extra hour of room rental so I can just conk out for a nice nap before I have to move again. Then I got to put on that snazzy robe again and meander down the hall to not one but two showers; regular and steam. Dude, I’ve never even seen a steam shower before! I didn’t know what to do with it. I ended up doing both ... at the same time!!! My mind was blown. I’ll admit. I might have just walked around naked for a few minutes in the bathroom because I could... and because compared to my bathroom/shower at home, this was like the Taj Mahal! Finally, I went back to the changing room where there are individual lockers for your stuff. However, I was highly offended by the clothes I was supposed to put back on. Don’t get me wrong, they were mine and I had just worn them in an hour or so earlier but they did not meet up to my current standards at the moment. Since I’m fairly sure that walking out in the robe would have been taking their hospitality just a touch too far, I reluctantly dressed in the peasant rags that lay before me. I considered for a moment if I could fit in the locker and just live there forever, but alas, the real world is calling. Next time, I’m just going to block off half the day to just hang out. There will never be another massage place for me that...
Read moreUpdate: management contacted us and went above and beyond to recover our only negative experience at Longevity. We have since returned several times and have had wonderful experiences. I would highly recommend Longevity for their great services and wonderful customer service.
My sister, mother, and I have visited both Longevity locations in the Knox area several times, and we have always had a wonderful experience. It is rare that we can all 3 find time to go together, so when we called just one day in advance for 3 appointments, we were surprised that there were appointments available. (We we’re supposed to be vacationing but due to the hurricane, we cancelled those plans and we’re looking for replacement activities, hence the late notice.) So, we arrive for our appointments and the receptionist seemed confused. She asked for our information and eventually told us our appointments were for the next day. She did not apologize or show any empathy. She condescendingly asked if we received the appt confirmation text with the date (which we did receive, but did not check the date, as we made the appt over the phone for “tomorrow” - no dates were mentioned). This was clearly her mistake, and while it was a simple one, her lack of care afterwards was pitiful. We were clearly upset and she offered no reconciliation. When I asked about openings at the other location, she did not attempt to check on this option; she instead responded with “it’s really hard to get in as a walk-in at both locations” .. which is exactly why we made appointments. 🙄 all this to say that we will not be back to this location, if any Longevity location at all. Customer service is important, and the lack of care this receptionist showed really speaks for itself. Everything else about Longevity is 5 stars, but this was very...
