This was my first (but definitely not last) visit to Typhoon Lagoon. I absolutely loved it!!! The only thing I wasn't expecting was needing to rent a locker for my wet bag (which I had thought was smaller than the size requirement to bring into the water). However, that was no big deal and more convenient than I had thought. I could have rented a standard locker for $10 for the day, but I rented the large one for $15. It was actually better than having to carry all of my things around. The only two attractions I went on were the lazy river and the wave pool. Both were amazing! The lazy river was the most beautiful one I have ever been in. I went around three times, and each time around is about 20 to 25 minutes (I'm guestimating). I do wish there were more floats that were the seater floats (like little chairs), but I really enjoyed it.
The wave pool was amazing! There was a period where every couple of minutes (I'm estimating), a huge wave would come out. You do need to keep your children close to you because these waves are no joke! If you're not a strong swimmer, I recommend staying in the more shallow end while these big waves are coming. If you wear a life jacket and go out too deep, the lifeguards will tell you to get behind a red line for your safety. I'm a good swimmer, and I loved trying to body surf on the big waves. Then, there's a period of time with more constant bobbing waves. But if you're not a strong swimmer, these waves can be somewhat strong if you aren't comfortable with choppy water. I don't go on roller coasters or anything that drops me, so I didn’t attempt any of the water slides. But this wave pool was a good amount of excitement for me. So between the excitement of the wave pool and the relaxation of the lazy river, I have found an enjoyable balance.
As a final note, I recommend paying attention to when the little different eating and drinking places open and close. They close at different times, which I hadn't realized. There are some maps of Typhoon Lagoon around the park, and the one I looked at (finally at the end of my day) listed the eating places and their hours of operation. Typhoon Lagoon closes at 6 pm on most days (I believe), but I think they have special after hours which requires a different ticket (I have a Disney Pirate Pass with the Water/Sports Add on option). I just spent the afternoon there, and I had a wonderful time even as a solo visitor. If you (and your kids when applicable) enjoy the water, I definitely recommend visiting Typhoon Lagoon. I'll...
Read moreIt was fairly fun.
The wave pool is really great, but like just about every other wave pool it does have a concrete bottom that is easy to get hurt on, especially if you fall over in the shallows. Additionally the wave break pattern is best in the middle and everyone kind of groups up there. I'm not sure if there was any intention of body surfing being ok, but we weren't yelled at when attempting it and there were just too many people that didn't understand what was occuring that we were bumping into, so we stopped on our own to prevent any kind of injury.
Lines for the rides were all fairly short when we went, although it had rained that morning. We did have a pregnant person in our group and unfortunately even the slowest body/raft slides had pregnancy warnings, which seemed kind of extra and left one of our group feeling left out.
We were able to enter the children's section and the pregnant person in our group was about to use a kids slide near the wave pool, which she really enjoyed. Unfortunately her eleven year old wasn't allowed to go down with her as there was a max height requirement. This also seemed extra.
Lockers are a bit inconvenient as the park is so big, but at least they were available.
We did have one issue at a Dole whip counter where they for some reason were out of the one icecream and it would take ten minutes... Which is fine, but they didn't want to let me pay for it all at once... Given our distance from the lockers, I wasn't thrilled about the idea of many small charges on my card (as it's very possible the bank could mark it as fraud then id have this huge walk)... Anyway this shouldn't have been an issue, but they made it a big deal to charge all at once and sit out front waiting and they took lube ten minutes to get a manager... It all worked out, but again... Extra.
Overall a great park, but...
Read moreI went for a dvc event and a regular daytime visit. During the daytime visit the lazy river was a mess with foliage which is understandable but not when you have wasps clinging to guests bathing suit like it did with me. It was alive and would not let go. I had a panic attack and my husband had to help me. The employees at the ice cream shop got my order wrong (had it just been a mistake from the employee no biggie it happens it was the lazy comment that followed) so i mention to her i ordered a cone NOT a cup the cashier tells the employee just stick a cone on the top. Literally people around me heard it and could not believe it. Event rolls around and we get ready to leave after the event. I put my hand against one of there locker walls and hear this chirp like noise. I saw this thing crawling towards my hand. Thinking it was a frog i move away leave my belongings and politely ask a male cast member to help me grab my stuff because theres a frog. He says no thats a bat and i cant get your stuff because it will jump at you if i scare it. He left and my stuff was just sitting there. Everyone heard the bat but couldn't spot it on the wall. So i get a female employee she thinks im lying and asks where this bat is and point it out to her. She apologizes and grabs my stuff and proceeds to tell me they will take care of it. They were hush hush about it and the fact that regardless if they eat bug if these thing s get scared or feel threatened they will bite and they carry all kinds of diseases including rabies, so i can not believe disney would let these things around a park where there are children running around all over the place who will spas out upon seeing it. I have 3 children and when my husband came with them from the restroom i told them just to avoid that area and we had to go around the...
