The massage? Great! The rest of my experience? Wanting.
Check-in was fine, albeit another member of staff (not the front desk person) was covering and it didn't go as smoothly as it could have.
Fast-forward to the locker room, which is underwhelming at best. The lockers are cleanish and some have visible exterior damage. A good bit of the grout, baseboard areas, and fixture attachments to the wall (etc) are stained and/or poorly patched/adhered. Same goes for the shower area, which has quite a bit of mold and mildew staining and some seriously gross shower sweeps among other things (the plastic fitting on the bottom-most portion of the doors, the replacement of which would cost ~$10ish bucks each).
I normally avoid steam rooms like the plague, but had arrived earlier than expected and figured I'd take a few minutes to bake before my massage. A couple of guys came out before I headed in, so I figured it was good-sized. Uh, nope, it's really small (and a bit claustrophobic as a result). Queue some super-creep/sketch behavior before and after the 2 guys quickly returned to the steam room and, with 4 people in there it would've been body to body (literally), so I got up and left before they both sat down.
Post that, I quickly rinsed in the shower, threw on a provided robe/pair of sandals and hit the waiting area, which was nice. They provide beverages, so I grabbed a water and tried to relax a bit. That was appreciated.
I won't go into the details of the massage, save to say that the therapist was obviously skilled and professional. That said, the massage (and my $$) felt mostly wasted as the spa/rooms were so cold I started shivering about half way through and couldn't stop. The tension all that shivering created nixed the tension the therapist was trying to target. I definitely don't blame him, but whoever is in charge of this place needs to get a clue where the temperature is concerned. Even with the heated table on (which was only slightly warm at best on the highest setting), it was frigid in the massage room (as well as the locker and waiting rooms).
Checkout was also a bit frustrating as the front desk person was basically chatting up a client on the phone. I get that customer interactions are important, but when you make the in-person customer wait to check out and pay while you have a less than professional call with (what seemingly was) another one? Yeah, there's no excuse for that. I even intentionally spoke up and asked if I could check out as the call was needlessly ongoing, and wasn't even acknowledged when I did so.
Long story a tad shorter, I was really hoping to find a place where I could go to have regular massages, but this isn't it. I will say the prices are definitely reasonable, which is a large part of what drew me here in the first place. That said, to label this place a spa? Imo not so much, as the bar is higher than what is offered here (again, massage and massage...
Read moreI REALLY want to like this place. Great concept (men-only accessibly-fancy spa), great location, etc. But it's never a great experience. It's as if the owners know that they're only game in town for this concept and willfully half-a$$ it. My three visits over the past year or so have been consistently inconsistent. For two out of three visits, the sauna has been defunct without any notification when I made the appointment. (And the sauna is very much a part of the "spa" experience.) The locker room itself has been in need of some maintenance work for quite some time, with visible water damage on the walls and mold in the showers. The front desk staff, as pleasant as they may be, are essentially cashiers (most recently I was greeted with "you're checked in, you can go on back" instead of maybe a "welcome back (name that was literally just provided to me and is also on a screen in front of me). how's your day been?" etc.) The "lounge" area has been diminished by replacing the chaises with just regular chairs; not particularly comfortable or relaxing. And while complementary beverages are on offer, they're of questionable caliber—Miller Lite and Rolling Rock? Really? After I just paid $165 for a massage? Also, who thought it was a great idea for folks to have a carbonated beverage before having their midsections pressed on for an hour? And finally, the masseurs themselves have all been hit or miss with little in the way of "check-in" during the massage or even a deeper dive into what areas you'd like focus on. Nor is there any kind of quasi-salesy follow-up; "you've got some knots in your back that I'd really like more time to work on" or whatever. Just basically "okay, you're done, get out." For the money charged, they are inarguably other options....
Read moreMy most recent visit at Sir Spa was the first time that I sought out massage therapy for pain relief. I had been carrying tension in my traps and my neck for weeks, experiencing headaches every day, and popping ibuprofen like candy. I explained my pain to Albie and he listened with great amount of attention and asked questions. He then went to work… and for the first time in weeks, I experienced relief, and as I write this review the following morning, I’m still tension- and pain-free. If I had known weeks ago, how much tension I was holding in my upper back and in the back and in the front of my neck, I would have done this sooner. Additionally Albie worked on a lower back issue that was also tight and bringing me a bit of pain, and he did some stretching with me and it feels better than it ever has. I’ve always gotten a massage for relaxation and as a treat, this was almost a medical need in my opinion and Albie was incredible, as close to a doctor as I needed. Thank you.!!!
My one and only request is that Sir Spa for Men invest in some better face cushions for their massage tables. While laying face down those face cushions do not give proper support, and I continually had to readjust my face so that my cheek wasn’t in contact with the hard surface under the...
