If you read no other part of my review just know this store is CASH ONLY!
This is part of a chain of thrift stores that have 22 locations across the country including the Red White & Blue stores in Hialeah and North Miami, and the Thrift Store in Jacksonville. They are for profit thrift stores meaning they are not directly affiliated with any charity. They claim to help charities by purchasing items from them. They are also keeping items out of the landfills and offering low cost items to people who might not otherwise be able to afford them.
This was my first visit and there was a bit of a learning curve. As soon as I walked in and saw the line I almost turned around and walked out but said what the heck, I'm here, I'll just take a look around but I really hope I don't find anything. Within two seconds I found a little trinket box for only $2 that perfectly matched my grandmother's china set that I inherited. Bam, there went my entire afternoon as I was sucked into World Thrift. LOL
This store is massive. They have tons of clothing, household goods, small appliances, toys, books, etc. My next find I was a set of dishes from Temptations in old world green, that perfectly matched the baking dish set I recently purchased at another thrift store. They actually had a lot of pieces by Temptations. I ended adding a Christmas platter and baking dish. Next I discovered they had vintage Pyrex. I was able to score a small bowl in my favorite pattern, butterprint turquoise.
By this point I was done shopping and headed to the checkout. I kid you not when I say there are shorter lines at Disney. Fortunately there was an express line for 5 items or less and I had exactly 5 things. Unfortunately it was still really long and rand down the kids clothing isle that was filled with toys. That meant the whole time I waited I had unmasked kids darting into me and past me as they raced for toys in the aisle as their parents ignored them.
After waiting 45 minutes I finally inched close enough to the front to see the signs, one of which said cash only. I frantically raced to find someone who worked there and who confirmed they were indeed cash only. I never carry cash anymore but I will after this. I ended up tucking in my cart behind the registers and racing to the bank a half mile away. When I came back my cart was still there thankfully but I had to get back in the line from the beginning. It did move faster the second time my ordeal isn't over yet. BTW I asked the cashier if the line is always like this and she said it was.
So for the finale they let you use the cart in the store but you can't take it to your car in the parking lot, not even a little bit before it locks. That left me lugging a set of heavy dishes and serving pieces to the far reaches of the parking lot with no assistance. I prayed the last bag wouldn't rip and I am sure I was a comical sight trying to get to my car. By the time I started driving home I was exhausted.
So I learned today World Thrift has a lot of great things at reasonable prices but make sure you bring cash, a friend, and your own cart to transport your...
Read moreHorrible experience at World Thrift.
World Thrift discriminates against guys with backpacks. Meanwhile, they let ladies stroll about their large purses.
As a guy who bicycles, I used my backpack like a wallet, and also to store my iPod and other personal items. When I walked into World Thrift, intending to buy some t-shirts, they loudly shouted at me and said I need to leave my backpack at the front desk.
"Why? You have women here with their purses. What about them? That's discrimination." I countered.
"They are purses." The lady employee said.
"So. This is my purse. My backpack is my purse." I said. "Follow me around if you want. I'm not gonna steal anything."
"You have to leave backpack here." A guy employee said.
"I have my stuff in it, my money, my iPod. What about these purses? They are huge. You are discriminating against me and it's not fair." I said.
They kept demanding that I leave my backpack. So I left. I will not be back.
Do they have a lot of clothes? Yes, mainly women's clothes. And women and girls should not shop there. Why? Because they buy a lot of outdated and ugly clothes and think they're getting a bargain when they arrive home with a pile of clothes for $30, but they look stupid wearing their ugly outdated fashions. Instead, they'd do better to buy a nice outfit for $50 and look like someone who doesn't shop at a thrift store.
World Thrift sucks. The employees of World Thrift discriminate against guys with backpacks.
Also, there's pickpockets that roam the aisles.
I know someone who was pick-pocketed by a Haitian woman.
I know someone who had her wallet stolen from her purse.
No dressing rooms, either.
Crowded with illegal immigrant women and Haitian women.
The place smells.
Skip this horrible, disgusting,...
Read moreFirst time going to World Thrift! I have to say they have a LARGE selection of everything you can possibly imaging. Different and fair price ranges both used, new, old, classic and items from around the world. I came here to find a cork-board and ended up buying shoes, clothes, kids stuff, and household items. I found 2 new pairs of shoes for $3/$7 and new shirts and pants for like $4-$8 a pop. I will be going back. plus they have off %$ sales everyday based on the color sticker of tag. Check the wall on the right when you enter. Love it Love it Love it! The only downside is that not everything is organized by size or what not so you have to search through each rack and you can easily spend a whole day there. For a customer is a hassle but I bet they can't easily keep up with the organization like a typical store because its too much!!! Please note that it is CASH ONLY. i came to realize that a bit late and had to turn around to find an ATM/Bank. there is a Chase back less than .25 miles away. There is no fitting room only mirrors so if you are planning on trying on clothes, make sure you go in leggings or wear a day/summer dress for easy fitting. Now don't go crazy, be knowledgeable with prices. some may seem high for cheap stuff. In my experience, I got brand names (Ann Klein, Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, DKNY, Ann Taylor, Seven, etc.) for cheap with new tags on them. A good time to go is super early in the morning when they are opening, on a Tuesday or Wednesday (less bit of traffic and they are always putting stuff on the racks from my...
