This is a big dog park, although the small dog area is pathetic. There is a section of it that has some grass and lots of shade, which is nice. There's a couple of awnings that make the very sunny days bearable. And it's lovely and large with ample parking. So you're wondering why I only gave it two stars? It's because it's not a particularly safe dog park. I've been there several times and unless it's empty or with just a few small dogs in it, I don't let my dog go in anymore. There are lots of really big dogs with bad owners, who don't have control over their dogs. There are regular fights and aggressive skirmishes. I don't mind dogs barking and working things out amongstthemselves, but I do mind bad owners who don't have control over their dogs. That unfortunately is what has happened to Lakewood dog park. So, I would just recommend doing what I do. When you happen to be over in the metropark, stop in and see how many dogs are in the park. If there's more than two or three small dogs, I wouldn't risk the safety of your own dog nor the rudeness of the other owners who spend more time on their phone and chatting with each other than paying attention to their dogs. I'm sure their dogs are very nice, I always see this as an owner problem not a dog problem. And there are a lot of problematic...
Read moreIt's "ok"...There's grass, but not much of it. It's over in the corner to the left, once you come in. It's definitely not a place for your miniature dog, or a small puppy. There is a separate spot for those dogs, but I rarely see owners put their dogs in there. I've been coming here for years, and the type of dogs that come here are more "outgoing". Some will mount your dog, some will jump on your dog, some might attack your dog, or basically just be aggressive. Every Dog Park has a dog with this behavior, but I see it more at this one. There will be more than one dog like this here. Some HUGE dogs come here! WOW!!! So, keep an eye on your dog, and if it gets bullied, SPEAK UP! The owners of these types of dogs might not restrain their dogs, because they might be proud of the fact that their dog is a big bully, and can kick your dog's ass. (Owners With Ego's)...This Park could be a great Boot Camp to have your dog see what other "BAD" dogs are like, or it will give them a permanent fear of other dogs. It's interesting to see people so biased toward a Pit bull coming to this Dog Park, when I see other types of overly aggressive dogs here that aren't Pit bulls! Just...
Read moreFinally some nice weather. I couldn't wait to get my dogs out. Went to the dog park and a gentleman with a breeding pair of Rottweilers was there. The male was aggressively attempting to jump every dog in there, make and female. Several people asked him to please control his dog and he wouldn't even get up off the bench. I called the number for the park and was told to call animal control. Basically animal control said you take your dog at your own risk, although rule 11 is very clear. Guess I will look for a better park. Such a shame that we can't enjoy the dog park in our own community.
