Perfectly acceptable as a sit-down, order from the menu restaurant. Complete failure as a BRUNCH BUFFET dining experience.
I will start by saying that I don't live here, though often visit family that lives in nearby Westlake and Lakewood. Since they absolutely adore this restaurant, we've dined here several times. This is my second brunch experience here and I can say with utmost conviction that it is one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Cleveland for the price paid.
In order to accommodate as much customer seating as possible for brunch, the restaurant removed all of the stools along its bar so that the buffet could be set up on top of the bar. The problem with this is that once the chafing dishes are in place, it is nearly impossible for shorter customers to be able to adequately see the contents of the many, many dishes due to the height of the bar. I'm 4’9” and found walking through the buffet an unpleasant experience; however, I wasn't the only one as other women next to me had the same issue and they were slightly taller.
What could be the disadvantage of being short, and you might wonder how that would play into a restaurant review? Well, think about every time you've found yourself in a buffet long and how selective you've been over a piece of meat appearing too dry or a vegetable not looking quite right. Due to the long line of people, I felt pressured to not take time to truly inspect each offering I was able to poke at with tongs or nudge onto a serving spoon. When I returned to our table, I found that I had managed to end up with every bit of unsavory food on my plate. The best item I had selected was a lone deep fried chicken tender: the eggs were unappetizing, bacon burnt to a crisp, dry items were kielbasa and sauerkraut, and breakfast sausage.
My attempt was so unsatisfactory that I gave up trying to serve myself and sent my beau to make me a salad because he is taller than me and was able to do so without angst. Sadly, I reacted poorly to something that was in the white balsamic dressing that sent me into a coughing fit and caused my throat burn and tighten. In the end, my beau payed $30 for a single chicken tender, two wedges of smoked Gouda, and a couple cubes of cheddar cheese.
Now, let's talk about the service. Listen, I get it: during these buffet events, the restaurant is busy. I grew up working in a diner that my family owned, so am well aware of what it's like to have PITA customers. I didn't bring any of my concerns to our server as she made it clear from the start that she was already over whatever the day had left to bring her. It was difficult to get anyone's attention for dirty plates to be cleared from our table or for one of my dining companions to receive cream for his coffee. One benefit of not having attentive service is that you aren't able to run up a large bar bill, so this business did lose out on that revenue from us. In addition, several of my dining companions commented on how the dishes they picked up from the buffet line didn't appear to be clean and one even passed a noticeably dirty dish back to a busser that happened to walking by.
Lastly, when we first arrived, there was a solo guitarist playing softly on a stage in the main dining room, which was nice. Once his set was over, he was replaced by loud music blaring from speakers mounted directly overhead. When the music kicked on, the conversation level readjusted to cacophony level. It's a few hours later and my ears are still ringing.
My main takeaways: if you are interested in a nice, quiet brunch experience, go somewhere else. If you still are planning to dine here for brunch and are a shorter person, be prepared for a demeaning experience as a grown ass adult and buddy-up with a taller friend to help you hit the...
Read moreA LOT of issues to cover here - but as mediocre an experience it was, the MOST unimpressive part is that I have written two emails to this restaurant to let them know our thoughts and they haven't even given us the courtesy of a reply. I guess they feel the cheap bottle of sparkling wine the embarrassed waiter gave us as an apology when we left would suffice.
I reserved an igloo for for a party of six after spending a lot of time looking online - my biggest mistake was not reading reviews first. Igloo dining was a new experience for all of us but what we thought would be fun for celebrating two birthdays. Pictures and menus looked great.
The restaurant looked warm and inviting while we waited in the bar. The courtyard looked pretty with lots of twinkling lights and lit-up igloos. It was raining heavily which made it even prettier.
My first impression when walking inside the igloo was that it was way smaller than I had imagined or than it appeared on the website. It was a large round table for six and a pretty tight fit with the two portable heaters. The "floor" was gravel.
My second impression was that it was hardly decorated for the season at all, except for about 8 small Christmas balls hanging from the ceiling over the middle of the table. White tablecloth, no centerpiece, nothing. NO music. They did have a speaker you could hook an iPhone up to which we did.
The heaters were either too hot for the people sitting directly with their back to them, or not hot enough if you happened to be on the other side of the igloo. None of that really mattered however because during the course of the two hours we had the igloo for we lost power no less than six times, which off course knocked out the heaters also. And quickly turned the igloo from cold to colder. The response to the loss of power (no doubt a breaker problem) wasn't exactly speedy and we almost resorted to calling the restaurant to let them know it happened again.
The evening only became more interesting when condensation began to form inside the igloo, dripping off the plastic and onto the back and arm of my sister who was sitting at the far side facing the door flap. It got worse as the evening went on and then started dripping on my niece's head.
The food was mediocre. The stroganoff was made with spaghetti/linguine pasta instead of flat noodles. The Caeser salads were not quite crispy with little dressing on them, appetizers were very good, desserts and coffee were also really good. Drinks were way too pricey. Chardonnay selection was "meh."
Our waiter (whose name escapes me) was the best part of the evening. He gave us great service, was very apologetic each time we lost power, and did give us a bottle of sparkling wine to take home to take some of the sting out of the evening ... though it had no impact whatsoever after failing to receiving even the smallest apologetic response to my two attempts via email to let the restaurant know about our experience.
The final insult was our bill which including the 20% gratuity was around $525 for a much less than spectacular time. Our waiter truly did the best he could given the power outtages and the rain. Sadly, what could have a very memorable experience ended up being so, but for all the wrong reasons.
They need to spend some money fixing the electrical issues, doing some serious decorating, list the size of the igloos on the website, and see what can be done about additional sealing wherever the water is coming in or condensation is forming on the inside of the igloo.
I've already been told I'm not in charge of next year's December celebrations! Can't say...
Read moreLet's start with the positive, the hostess was lovely! We had sat on the patio which was hopping but still had plenty of tables. The patio is absolutely beautiful. Although it can be very loud from street noise more than anything. We are given a bottle of water for the table immediately from a second hostess. Now that bottle was almost empty by the time our server came. Pleasant and kind she took our small plate & cocktail order. The cocktails were out fairly soon. The shareable app not so much. It took her quite a bit of time to acknowledge us again. I'm assuming there's a lack of servers! Empty glasses of water, nobody to flag down for another bottle. It was 40 minutes before we got our cheeseboard! We asked for another bottle of water & that took a bit of time. We all ordered our meals that came out one at a time. We had to flag someone else down because a salad (that we thought would come before the meal) was missing. Now she goes back inside comes back out and tells us they did not put it in and she was very apologetic and said the salad would be on the house! I guess when you get a salad on the house, you get the bottom of the bag🥴 Picture added. The table was overloaded with glasses, plates, water bottles etc.. A fresh cocktail was knocked over on the table and went everywhere on two people at the table. Not one busser, server or any employee came to assist that maybe we needed anything like napkins or maybe clear the table of a mess. Although we had a lovely time and considering we all have been here before, the food was good but not the usual flavorful perfected dishes that we had expected. Would I recommend Georgetown/Vosh ? Yes, I would. I believe that sometimes it's just an off day and things don't run right from the front of the house to the back and in...
