Sadly, I have to update my review in staying true to what I put my name & practice of 9yrs behind. Regulars who know me from when I worked full-time at the spa as LMT have reached out asking why I’m no longer there. I’ve not responded due to needing time to process some things but out of respect for my awesome clients I feel an explanation from my end is in order. In short, this spa has proven to be corrupt in the treatment of their employees as well as exploitation of their sales. My experience is that while I’ve put off my own business & personal gain to build theirs they’ve repaid me by giving out private information to random mischief makers. My car was vandalized there on the property. When I stood up for my legal rights to privacy I was dismissed without reason. According to the manager & owner who doesn’t speak English they were under no obligation to give a reason for dismissal without even a day’s heads-up. Among other red flags, I found when trying to turn on music for my room that the sound system was tapped making it to where I could hear conversations that I’m certain weren’t meant for ANYONE else’s ears. This happened in every massage room. Other LMTs willing to risk their jobs for honesty would report the same as this was an ongoing issue for all of us, making it an unsafe environment for relaxing as well as work. This is America. We don’t take kindly to secretly being recorded especially at a place where women are encouraged to walk around naked!
On numerous occasions I was verbally assaulted by the hot-tempered security guard on post who doesn’t speak English. At one point he got nose to nose with me yelling so hard that spit went all over my face & shirt. When I firmly told him to calm down he went to hit me. I said jail in hopes that he would understand the consequences, he stopped yelled/spit more then turned & left. I had to use a towel to wipe his saliva off. This exchange happened when he marched into my massage room while I was wrapping up from the last appointment of the day. The massage ended at 9pm & the time was not quite 9:15pm. I was told by the manager to try & be done by 9:30pm on weekdays. The guard apparently didn’t get this memo because without any forewarning he marched into my room blocking me from reaching for the door and began screaming in Korean. I understood “time! leave!” but why a complete stranger would get in my space just to rail me in another language without any provocation was beyond me.
Tips in my mailbox were dallied with among other illegal treatment. Since leaving, I’ve asked the manager to not continue to contact me yet they do so. The last being today at 2:38pm. More to say about how the employees are treated but certain things will be left for a proper investigation rather than a...
Read moreI've been going to the lakewood (Tacoma) location for over 4 or 5 years now, between once or twice a month to every few months. Have always enjoyed it, and followed the rules and enjoyed my peace there feeling so de-stressed it was wonderful. Aside from the occasional compliment or being asked politely and in spa voice if I mind them sitting near me in the tubs I respect others space and keep to myself. When I've brought friends we have always kept our conversations to a whisper. I just went again for the first time in over 4 months as I'm pregnant with my first, and it was an horrible experience. The prenatal massage and the food were great. The rest of it was a nightmare, mostly because the only space that was kept at spa whisper or silence was the cooling log room. EVERY single other room was so jam packed AND not even street conversation loud but a weekend party level loud. Several staff walked by especially in the pool room and nobody hushed or reminded the loud ones to keep it down like the last time I was there when it started to get loud. It was so bad I couldn't even concentrate on reading my books. I normally love to stay until past 6 or 7pm, but this time I was so frustrated and my peace was so disturbed I was dressed and in my car heading home by 3pm feeling more stressed than I arrived. When a front desk lady took my key and asked how my stay was I told her politely but disappointedly the massage and food were awesome, but that I was leaving super early because it was so jam packed and loud everywhere I couldn't read or enjoy the facilities in peace. That I even started getting stressed because I almost had to cram myself into any of the tubs except the hottest one because it was so overcrowded. The lady smiled, laughed and in a hard to understand accent replied that there was alot of people so it be loud. No sympathy or apologies for my almost completely ruined experience. Even asked as I was paying for a blanket when I was due. Why have those signs up saying that people who don't comply with the spa voices will be asked to leave, and be perfectly ok with someone saying they had their experience ruined by the noise level? Made me want to give away my remaining two gifted day passes and never go back again since they care about packing in more people than the paying customer's experience due to lack of rule enforcement. I live over an hour away with the Tacoma location being closest so going on a week day is out of the question for me. I understand saturdays can get packed but it's never been this bad before. I likely will only come again to use my remaining two passes my husband bought me and if those experiences are the same I guess the spa will lose a loyal customer that would also recommend them to...
Read moreI had been wanting to visit the spa for almost 2 years and I finally was able to make the trip from Portland and come over this past weekend, upon entering, I felt very overwhelmed by the amount of people in the facility in general it took some adjusting, not only that I would like to share For other black women that may want to come to the spa to maybe bring a friend because it was very clear from the other ladies that were also enjoying the spa. They were confused as to why I was there and uncomfortable with my presence which inherently made me uncomfortable , I really wish that they had taken into consideration the vulnerability of every woman entering the spa naked Everyone is here to relax and have a good time and it is not fair to make others feel unwelcome or ostracized. My experience to turn around when Young came and got me for my body scrub, which was 10 out of 10. She had a very positive energy and gave me lots of compliments and made sure that I was very comfortable and the experience itself Was once in a lifetime experience that me feeling refreshed. Moving onto the body massage, I was greeted by Lauren and once again felt very welcomed and comfortable. I felt like our personalities were a great match however, if you’re looking for more of a deep tissue or traditional massage, I felt like she had a very light touch which I won’t do because she was very pleasant and did her absolute best to make me feel comfortable when I shared My experience with the other patrons in the spa, she listened intently and we had some amazing conversations that I felt might’ve distracted or took time away from the actual massage, but that’s neither of our faults and that conversation obviously needed to happen. Body wrap left feeling confused as to what the benefits were other than getting extremely messy again not Lauren fault I just would go with the body moisturizing instead of the wrap in the future. In a nutshell, I was pleased with my service providers and the level of care I received from them, but the overall experience of being one of the only black women in a predominantly white space took me off guard which is saying a lot being that I am from Portland, Oregon, one of the whitest cities in America I have never felt so uncomfortable and unwelcome so I would just like people to be mindful of how they are treating others in a...
