I'm so excited to be one of the first to review Mi Casa! This gem opened up in the last couple weeks down the street from me. One word. WOW! Non-descript exterior, I didn't even know it existed until I saw an article in my news feed from the Tacoma News Tribune. This is Mexican street food and a few traditional dishes at their best. The menu isn't huge, but there's something for everyone. They also feature daily specials. The dishes range from classic favorites like quesadillas, tacos and burritos to more specialized like enchiladas Michoacan, chilaquiles, alambre, huarache and more. I had the tlacoyos. OMG GET THEM when you visit. (If you've never had them, think of something similar to papusas or traditional gorditas). Filled with refried black beans and topped with a delicious verde sauce, cilantro, cotija, crema, and served with carne asada—if these are a food crime, I'm going to be repeat offender. My wife had the tacos dorados. They had a light and delicate crunch and were filled with juicy meat. The refried pintos were delicious. The rice was the only thing that could have been better. It was cooked well, but rather bland—inoffensive but no personality. The horchata on the other hand...superb. It tastes homemade. Skip the Mexi-coke and get horchata instead. Overall, the quality and flavor of the food here is amazing. Things aren't over-seasoned or greasy. This isn't Tex-Mex or Cal-Mex, this is traditional Mexican. Eating my dinner tonight I was transported back to being a child—sitting in my abuelo's kitchen in LA with Los Trios playing in the background, half-listening to Spanglish conversations—calm, content, happy, and full. I can't wait to come back and try the tacos al vapor or the...
Read moreFood here was great and the service was nice. If you are going here for your first time, the service might not be as good (indicated by the review), and this is because they have a different system. If you are dining in, you go to the register and say that you’re dining in and what you want to order. You then pay and sit where you’d like and you’ll get the food via a server or they will call you up. The workers might sound like they have an attitude, but they are very nice and accommodating. They probably seem like they have an attitude due to how efficient they want to be, but, when I was ordering, the worker at the register made sure I had everything I wanted and payed attention to ask if I wanted anything off or on my order (e.g., cilantro, onions, type of meat, any substitutions). They also asked if I wanted any drinks and proceeded to show me the drinks and told us that we could just say the colors if we couldn’t see the words (which was true since I did not bring my glasses). Ordering out is the same process as dining in, however, it’s even easier since it’s almost...
Read moreA month ago I visited this restaurant and it was delicious. As a California transplant it was a breath of fresh air to eat authentic Mexican food.
What a difference a month makes.
The asada was awful and overcooked cheap cuts as opposed to the original grilled taste. My wife could only eat the rice out of her burrito as the pork was sour. My daughters quesadilla was microwaved and her fries were an undercooked oil soaked mess. Prices are higher than the last visit and quality has dropped through the floor.
On our first visit the owner cooked for us and was super nice. She made the experience all the better. Today a young kid "cooked" our food. I only took one bite of my meal and they didn't offer to take it off. Just a "Sorry you didn't like it". I would like it if it was the same as last visit. Such a shame as good authentic Mexican food is so hard to find in Washington.
I'll...
