Iâd like to start by saying that Classic Game Junkie is probably the best-priced retro gaming store Iâve ever shopped at. I usually donât leave reviews until Iâve had a few experiences with a place, and weâve stopped in several times to browse or look for specific items. My wife typically picks up a few Switch games when we go.
However, a recent experience was frustrating enough that I feel compelled to share it.
Earlier this week, I was looking for an HDMI to Composite (HD to AV) converter. I called the store on Tuesday and was told they had it in stock. After work, I drove overâonly to find they did not have the item I asked for. What they had was AV to HDMI, which is not what I needed.
The staff member told me they could get the correct item from their Glenside location and have it in by the next day. I said, âGreatâmake it two if you have them.â
The next day, I came back expecting to pick them upâpossibly along with the new Donkey Kong gameâbut once again, they didnât have the item. The same staff member was there and tried to offer an alternative solution, but at that point, I told them I wouldn't be making a third trip.
Had I ordered from Amazon, I wouldâve had the item by nowâwithout wasting hours of my time. I understand the challenges small businesses face competing with big online retailers, and I try to support local stores whenever possible. But if someone calls asking about an item and you donât have it, just be honest. If you canât get it, say so. Donât send customers on a wild goose chase.
You lose one star for not having the item, and another for wasting my time. I wonât be returning for a third attempt. By the time the owner reads this, Iâll have already ordered and received what I...
Read moreLet me preface this by saying I have been to dozens of game stores across the country, from Burbank, California to Salem, New Hampshire. This is hands down one of the best I've ever been to. Now the prices are about on par with what you can find on eBay, occasionally a bit cheaper, But this place has an amazing atmosphere. A massive selection of games from Atari 2600 to PS5 all neatly and alphabetically organized in a fairly spacious building, decorated with consoles, accessories, and other knick-knacks, it was amazing. They have a huge selection of games, I managed to find 2 different ports of some of my favorite games that I didn't even know existed. Not to mention the neighboring arcade which really just seals the deal of this place. The sounds in the store are faint enough to just add to the atmosphere, but not overwhelm you or make it hard to speak to the friendly staff. The cabinets they had were great, they had a cabinet for The House Of The Dead which was like new! Quite honestly I can't think of a single store in the Tri-State area that holds a candle to this place, I'm hard pressed to even think of a game store in the country in the country that's as good as here. This place is 1 hour 30 minute trip from where I live, but this will be my go to retro game store from now on and I doubt...
Read moreThis is THE COOLEST game store hands down. I don't know anyone here and I'm giving an honest review. I've been in a lot of game stores and I've seen everything from commercial chains to farmers markets and everywhere in between. This place satisfies every gamer! It brought back memories from my Atari Commodore 64 time of life to brand new video games that my sons are into. They have games from every era. My son bought Nintendo Switch games. The store is immaculate, well-organized and the people that worked there were so helpful and nice. Honestly, I didn't have entirely high hopes before we had gone there but I figured why not give it a try. You would expect a store that would have vintage items as well would be dank and dusty and have that weird old smell along with being overpriced but it wasn't! We were like oh my God this and oh my God that, look at this look at that. We bought a bunch of things that were reasonably priced and I am definitely going back. Another cool thing was that they had an arcade off of it where you pay for a wristband and can play all day and it's cheap! I mean seriously you cannot beat it anywhere. I wish this was around when my kids were younger too. This is truly a gem...
