Update 6/20: The WiFi has gotten worse, basically unusable. Why do I even bother trying anymore. đ
Let me first start by saying that Iâve been visiting Backyard Beans Lansdale for almost 5 years now. Iâve seen many service members, managers and regulars come and go. Hereâs what I absolutely adore about this cafe and things that I would love to see improved:
The Good:
The people. Hands-down, my favorite aspect of Backyard Beans Lansdale is the community Iâve come to know and love by becoming a regular myself. I moved to Lansdale for work back in 2019 and this place is the reason why Iâve been able to meet so many fabulous people, both employees of âThe Beanâ and its patrons. Itâs a great meeting hub to get to know the neighbors in your âbackyardâ.
The coffee is GREAT. The roasting operations folks know what they are doing, hands down. I also really appreciate the biographies written about the growers that often accompany the release of new single origin products.
The service quality at this point in time is very good, especially since the current crew has settled in. It was a bit of a rocky start when the newest batch of baristas came in but I can say theyâve turned it around.
BEST CINNAMON ROLLS IN MONTCO. Try one sometime. Or not, so thereâs more left for me. ;)
The Okay:
Please be mindful of the cleanliness of the front of house. People notice dust on flat surfaces, stickiness on âfreshâ mugs, dirty trash cans, etc. The backbar needs more attention, too.
Consistency of product. I order the same drink almost every time and it never tastes the same. Is it how folks are being trained? Recipes and order of steps when making a drink? I donât know.
Lack of customer-facing signage. It would be useful to have visible order and pickup signs to direct customers. When itâs busy, it everyone congregates up front and thereâs confusion as to where a line should actually form.
The Ugly:
Wi-Fi. Itâs never reliable. Ever. If you want to work from this space, bring a hotspot. Iâd love to see the owners upgrade the public internet here but it doesnât seem like this is the demographic of customers they want...
Read moreThis place is going to get someone killed! I had their BLT that is made with WALNUTS. I canât even tell you how many BLTâs I have had in my life span! With pesto!! Most pesto is made with pine nuts (if any nuts at all). By law, if you have an active allergy ingredient you should be listing it on your menu. Not a little red dot next to the menu item, that you then have to go to the very bottom of the menu for it to state âmay contain nutsâ. Fun fact, âmay contain nutsâ, doesnât mean CONTAINS NUTS. It actually means the very opposite and that it doesnât contain nuts, but that it could possibly be made on the same surface that has cross contamination. I ate there BLT and only got two bites i n before my throat closed and I couldnât feel my mouth and lips. Luckily I had fast acting medication before I had to use my EpiPen and go to the hospital. My friend, who was with me asked the barista if the pesto had nuts in it and she wasnât even sure, her eyes bugged out of her head and couldnât even give us a proper answer . We then asked the chef who was bringing out another order and he nonchalantly said âoh yeah it has walnuts in itâ. I havenât had an allergic reaction in 15 years and I had my first one at this place, because they didnât properly have allergen warning on their online or physical menus. âMay containâ isnât enough. Every protein bar or baked dessert to date has âmay contain nutsâ. That doesnât mean itâs an active ingredient. If you actively have an allergen in a menu item it needs to be listed. I see this cafe getting sued in the future. Luckily I didnât have to got to the hospital because I noticed immediately that something was wrong. 5-10 more minutes and I would have stopped breathing. Theyâre asking to get sued. It is 2025, this is ridiculous. Never in my life have I been to a restaurant or cafe that didnât have warning labels. And I used to work in customer service. Make sure your baristas know what menus items contain allergy ingredients and donât. They said they were going to refund my meal, I donât care about the refund. You need to change your menu....
Read moreI donât leave reviews often⌠if ever really, but I was so impressed that I felt almost obligated to come on here and leave one. If you live within 5 miles of here and have not ventured in to get a coffee or burrito you are truly missing out. Shamefully, I must admit, I live only a 4 minute walk from backyard beans and Iâve yet to go, that is until today. My wife and I frequent Dunkinâ and Starbucks - both of which we always say how overpriced and underwhelming it is, and I donât think I could go back now.
Now that Iâve got the real readers on board - let me tell you⌠we both got cold brews with sweet cream, not only was it cheaper than Starbucks or Dunkinâ - but the coffee was incredible. It was smooth - delicious - the cream was velvety and flowed into the coffee almost magically. It was liquid goodness in its most basic form - yet surpassed almost every expectation I had by a lot. I also ordered a west main burrito, with pork sausage. This was actually hand made with real ingredients and was enough to feed 2 easily! Probably one of the best breakfast burritos Iâve had. It wasnât just thrown in a microwave. Ive heard a ton about backyard and now I can firmly say - they live up to the hype. The staff was extremely friendly and the shop was warm and welcoming.
Donât give your money to companyâs that care less about you, and sell you an overpriced and underwhelming product, give your money to this local gem, that I am confident will surpass all of your...
