I'm new to Laredo & been using this Library the most. For some reason I can't sit in the Childrens & Teens area to do My research BUT Children & Teens can run around playing with each other in the Adult area where I am disturbing Me & other Adults. There's signs stating No Cellphone use BUT people have loud conversations interrupting My & others concentration & NOTHING is said to them. I've lived in 30+ Cities, 15 States & I NEVER heard of a Library telling people they couldn't use their phones. Some People use Libraries as their office because of the WiFi & tables. Then for some reason the female security guards mean mugg Me & I'm 6' 3" @ 220+ lbs.. They also for some reason believe they have to walk by where I'm sitting multiple Times❗So far out of the 1 month I've been in this City using this Library it's been 3 different female security guards doing this. Perhaps they should apply for the police department if they want to intimidate, harass & fight people because a Library IS NOT the place for their behavior❗On ALL of My visits to this Library NONE of the security guards told the Children & Teens to leave the Adult area BUT I'm positive they would RUSH over to say something to Me if I was sitting in the Childrens &/ Teens area. Another reason I come to this Library is it's next to a Vietnam War Memorial so I hangout there before I enter & after I leave to give Respect to My Mentors who trained Me in Various Survival Tactics & Martial Arts as a Young Man. I also don't know My way around Laredo yet & there's NO bike lanes here which makes traveling difficult, so this Library is the most convenient 1 to go to, BUT there's ALWAYS something going on to...
Read moreWe are out of town visitors and have been to this library on 3 separate occasions. The library itself is nice with a great selection of books and activities for young kids and a teen area. However, the staff unfortunately could use some training on lightening up and having a more positive impact on the visitors. Specifically, there’s a security guard there that made us feel rather uncomfortable and just seems to be waiting to nag visitors for any misstep. My 5 yo was not interested in being at the library due to the presence of the security guard. Also, during our most recent visit we overheard staff within clear earshot complaining about not wanting to be there. Where we are from, the library is a very welcoming positive place where the staff care about the children and look to help them enjoy the experience of the library and reading. Whereas, the staff at this library seemed to be doing the opposite. Of course its possible these were isolated to our few...
Read moreVery disappointed with the Bruni branch. I've been out of town the last couple of years and have gotten to experience library's in diffrent towns. They've always treated me very well and encourage me to use their equipment as a guest, anytime that I needed to use the facilities. However being back in Laredo for almost a month and used up all my hotspot data, I attended the downtown branch for some quick internet use. Had to print out a form for submission, asked for the computer to print. Found out in the front desk that since I have an old library card, mind you I didnt carry cash, I needed to pay for a day pass or pay for an updated card. SMH. Couldnt they just write me down as a guest and permit me to make a one 10 cent printout. Is this the kind of treatment visiting guests, or residents of Laredo can...
