There are so many marvelous things about the KU Natural History Museum!

My children and I have always loved going there, I did before I even had children myself. Letting the kiddo's minds wander about various things throughout our world, both current and in the past is truly wonderful. It sparks fantastic conversation. They also love the souvenir shop.

Awesome displays of different habitats and taxidermy. A few stations where you can actually pet the fur of different animals. In the summer they have a large hive of bees that you can see into!

It is not a very big museum, multiple levels, but not a difficult or long trip at all. The building is old, they DO have an elevator, but there has been a time or two when it has been out of order.

They also have some living snakes, lizards, and...

I recently visited the KU Natural History Museum--Dyche Hall and was thoroughly impressed with the specimen collection on display. The collection is vast and varied, with everything from fossils and minerals to taxidermy and shells. I was particularly impressed by the quality of the specimens and the level of detail in the displays. I also appreciated the interactive exhibits, which made learning about the different specimens fun and engaging. The staff was also very friendly and knowledgeable, and willing to answer any questions I had. I highly recommend KU Natural History Museum--Dyche Hall to anyone interested in natural history and geology. It's definitely a must-see for anyone visiting...

A fun (and free-ish) indoor experience for the kids, the KU Natural History Museum has always been a good stop when in Lawrence. The rest of the University and the parking situation, however, are pretty abysmal. You now need to download an application to park at the Union, and the politics that are being displayed at the museum (5th floor, really? Evidently were more excited about politics than actually presenting natural finds, unfortunately....).

Local Tip If you're already spending money to park at the Union, take full advantage of it. Visit the Chick-fil-A on the 3rd floor or the Marketplace for a great meal, or the 4th floor for the...

This is a nice to visit as an adult or with children. In our short time in Lawrence my kids and I have enjoyed this museum. We have visited during a few event as well and always seem to find something new. I hope the bees are back this summer. My daughter saw the foot bones in acrylic/plastic and immediately thought of spray on shoes from the movie “Cloudy with the Chance of Meatballs” and now I can’t unsee it. Play the “Natural History Mystery” if you have the time. It was such a fun way to explore a museum we have visited so often. There is a video and you are given a backpack that you unlock with clues throughout the museum.
