I absolutely love this place. I drive to Lawrence from Overland Park to have lunch there with a college friend who lives in Topeka. I know there are other great restaurants in Lawrence, but the Big Mill's unique Detroit-style pizza is addictive. The owner shared that it takes a special oven to get the focaccia-style pizza to come out right. Hopefully, the owner will open a restaurant in Johnson County. Today we split a cheese steak sandwich and the Night Moves pizza. The red sauce on the pizza is tangy and bright. Service is always great and today was no exception. Satori did a great job while also sharing author recommendations. The cocktails were great. I had the classic Horsefeather (rye, ginger beer, lemon, bitters). They have a good selection of rye whiskeys. My college buddy had the Garden Face Plant, a smoky margarita (strawberry-infused tequila, basil, Serrano and lime). Dessert was the dark chocolate Pot de Créme with whipped cream and orange zest. It's a rare treat! We met the owner as we left. He was addressing some minor maintenance that I'm sure is a never-ending challenge of running a restaurant. He mentioned that he opened the restaurant (the building was a laundromat in a previous life), two weeks before COVID hit in 2020. Impressive feat to have weathered that and come out the other end with such a fine establishment.

Nothing but positive things to say about this place. Five of us went on a Tuesday night. They sat us outside, as requested. Turned on the heaters for us, as requested. The waiter came by frequently to check on us. He was patient, informed, helpful, friendly, polite, and professional. We ordered the chorizo nachos as an appetizer. Super yummy. Big enough for the 5 of us to share. I ordered the wings for r dinner as that was the special of the night and they were 1/2 of ($7). My brother and sister split the “Night Moves” pizza. My other sister got the kale and beets salad. My other sister got the fish and chips. I loved the wings. But I could only eat 4 after gorging myself on nachos. I took home the other 6 wings. My brother and sister had 2 slices of pizza leftover. My sister loved the salad and finished all of it. My other sister loved the fish and chips and we all tried them. The sauce is kind of sweet, but also has a lemony taste. She had leftovers and took it home. We really enjoyed ourselves. The heaters kept us very comfortable so we could all take off our coats outside after a while. The bill was very reasonable. I would definitely return.

Good food, good service, good cider. The fries, salad, & Detroit Special pizza were all very good and the English cherry cider was fantastic. The house-made ricotta was just heavenly. The pizza and the cider squealer were perfect for a meal for two, and the portion of fries was extremely generous. Even the prices are pretty great - you could spend a lot if you wanted all the bells & whistles, but you could also get a solid meal for two for around $30. A couple of little issues: The pizza was a bit cold, although the fries were piping hot, and the jalapeno honey was not at all what I expected - I figured it would be some variation on honey with a jalapeno kick, but it tasted more like garlic paste with a tiny bit of heat and a slightly sweet aftertaste.

Beer choices are incredible and varied. I had a "pseudo sue" and it was delicious. My friend ordered nachos and they were ok. Kind of bland with some sort of green salsa that was pretty tasteless. Not something I'd ever order again. The toppings were sparse and no cheese to be found. The place is clean and very modern. There was a family with very small children sitting in the bar area and the children were not happy to be there. Parents were busy on their phones and drinking beer. After much screeching and loud wailing, they departed. I don't know that I'll return. The service was fine but a little slow. All in all, a solid 3.5 on all accounts. I feel free state brewery is a better choice but at least I tried the big mill.

This has been one of the best dining experiences I've ever had. I ordered the Detroit Deluxe pizza and was blown away. It's a little messy, but that's just me. The crust was crisp and crunchy, which was a wonderful contrast against the melty cheese and sauce. I wish I had asked for my server's name — she was fantastic. She gave us enough time to order, and enjoy our meal, before swinging back around for our dessert and check. The ambiance of the restaurant is beautiful. There are historical touches, such as the reclaimed wood panels that make up part of the walls. I will absolutely come back. It was the best birthday present .

Excellent restaurant, near Ku campus. We went there for lunch. The venue is tastefully decorated, lots of parking, has an outside eating area. Superb food, great sides and pizza, distinctive Detroit style. As dessert, you can order freshly made zeppoles, an Italian deep fried pastry. Wait staff is superb and capable. Definitely I recommend. Hopefully they can maintain quality. Return today for lunch. Food is fresh, well presented, superb quality, and tasty. Excellent dessert! Atmosphere continues to impress. Service today was super slow wit a clear lack of staff causing delay in service.
