If you are South Asian, DO NOT GO HERE! We called before going here, the automated voice said no need to make reservations so we didn’t! We were there at 11 am. The woman taking the reservation was not in Amish wear, but in regular t-shirt and jeans! We waited in line, the party before us got booked no problem! We were 5 adults and 2 kids, there were two buggies waiting while one left for a tour! The woman at first said hello and then. Didn’t talk to us! She intently started looking down at the book! I told her we were interested in the 55 min draw bridge tour! She started by saying she doesn’t think she can accommodate us and the next tour doesn’t start until 1:30 anyway! I mean we could have been just fine waiting but she didn’t seem interested in asking us that! We asked what was the next tour leaving to which she said we would be too tight on it and it would leave at 12:30 pm! Basically, she was not interested in offering any kind of help and seemed like just wanted us to leave so we did- you kind of develop a radar for these things!! We travelled from NY and had found out about them online so wanted to enjoy the ride! I didn’t expect to encounter this treatment! We shopped there a bit and when we were leaving saw other people getting reservations! SO DON’T GO IF YOU HAVE MELANIN, IT DOESN’T SEEM LIKE THEY NEED OR WANT YOUR BUSINESS! The Amish ladies inside the quilt shop and bakery were nice...
Read moreI’m leaving a five star review because if I rate it one star, it will never see the light of day! I wanted to write about this fabulous place... if you like the cruel treatment of animals, then this is the best place for you to go! The staff has barely any knowledge about equine care and when trying to chat with them about the horses, they clearly show their ignorance. I went to Kitchen kettle on an exceptionally hot and humid day. I would never have ridden on a trail with a horse, let alone hooked a horse up to a buggy and made 2 horses pull that massive load (anywhere from 5-10 people) They don’t know how to properly “cool off a horse,” the tack was clearly ill fitting, as well as the bits, bridle, etc. those horses were being bitten alive by flys, and needed to rest. They got about five minutes in between runs to rest and be “cooled off” and that is not enough. Not to mention, you are making a horse work extremely hard and then putting it on the road next to passenger cars and forcing it to breathe in all that pollution. Please consider the animals you are exploiting in order to “take a tour of the Amish country” and if the owners are reading this, train your staff. Maybe take some basic equine care...
Read moreI did a lot of research on different buggy rides and found this one to be the best one in the area according to google reviews. Our ride was 35 minutes long and the only disappointment I found was there wasn’t any other options. I remember reading that there was other options where you can take a tour of a farm etc. go thru a covered bridge etc. I did not find that available at the time of my tour. Even with that, I enjoyed my 35 minute ride. It consisted of riding through Amish country briefly stopping at a home/ farm to purchase snacks and drinks . So bring dollars so you can support the Amish family kids selling the snacks . If nothing else it was just so cute to see two brothers run out , one barefoot to the wagon to sell us whoopie pies etc. Our tour guide was very informative and entertaining at the same time. I just found it interesting to be in a buggy driving down the street a street in Lancaster. How unique is that? Highly...
