Trillium Natural Foods Organic Grocery — Attraction in Lincoln City

Trillium would be an exemplary establishment were it in any major city, but being fairly isolated on the Oregon coast as it is, it deserves especial praise.

Upon entrance, you're greeted by their 'free food' box, which features produce which has past its shelf-life prime, but is still very much edible or salvageable – we picked up a bunch of tomatoes and a few corn cobs! It is so very much appreciated that not only are they not wasting this food, but offering it free of charge. Discount produce is uncommon enough as it is, to see a grocer going as far as giving it away is inspiring.

Farther inside the cozy one-bedroom-house-turned-store is a varied, fresh, and extremely well priced produce selection, raw milk cheeses, obscure and excellent books on health and nutrition (some of our personal favorites were hidden in there), and a surprising amount of quality bulk items and home goods. Despite such abundance, the space doesn't feel the least bit too crowded.

There's a number of popular products one might expect to find which are conspicuously absent. It turns out the owner is a no-bullshit sort of fellow when it comes to vendors, and immediately discontinues sale of any products whose formulas have been changed for the worse. This is like a mini Trader Joe's. I mean mini, but plenty of organic fabulous products!! Super friendly. If you forget your bag they offer a free box for you. Now about the good stuff! Look at this beautiful box of freshness! I only went today for one thing. Unless you're from Southern California you've probably never heard or had one. Look at these beautiful avocados! They are called Fuerte. Only available December to April. Comparing them to Hass avocados is the difference between butter and margarine. Seriously. They cut like butter and taste like no other. Currently they are $2.99 each. Too good to be true and an exceptional bargin. You can't find at regular grocery store ever! Just organic stores and not all of them. Thank you Trillium!! I visited this store for the first time yesterday and was welcomed with "make yourselves at home" and that simple gesture was so, so nice. Very friendly staff! In general, I don't experience that feeling of welcoming much, so that really stood out to me. I noticed they have everything in bulk, almost anything you can imagine to be in most bulk aisles, and more. They also have discounted and free produce that is on its way out (which every store should consider to cut down on waste and greenhouse gases in landfills).
